Will Lam reveals his Stage 4 lung cancer diagnosis on Instagram
On June 30, Will Lam posted a selfie of himself with a lengthy caption written in Chinese, sharing the news of his diagnosis with his followers.
He began by explaining:
"I was diagnosed with stage 4 lung adenocarcinoma. I've been coughing since late May. I first saw my general practitioner and took antibiotics twice, but the cough persisted. I was then referred to a respiratory specialist, who did a CT scan and found something unusual. I was then referred to another specialist."
While at the doctor's office, after seeing the doctor with a serious expression on his face, Will Lam joked, further elaborating:
"Doctor, you look so bad, cancer?' I laughed it off, thinking it was tuberculosis. I went to the hospital for a detailed examination, and after two or three days... I was told it was stage 4 lung adenocarcinoma."
After receiving the diagnosis, he shared how he felt in the caption. While in the middle of production, he was unsure if he could continue with his performance. He wrote:
"At 33, the prime of my life, I’m forced to rest... It would be a lie to say I’m not [emotional] and don't want to curse the heavens and the entire world."
He also added:
"From the diagnosis to now, I have seen that the people around me are more uncomfortable and more anxious than me."
Lam concluded by reassuring his friends, loved ones, and his fans by saying:
"Don't worry, it's okay. I'm used to dealing with adversity. Just live life as usual. Love you all ;) I know you all dote on me."
Will Lam's post exuded strength, vulnerability, and transparency with his fans. Despite the stage 4 lung cancer diagnosis, he remains resilient and hopeful, ready to face the challenge with courage.
