Kanye West sat down with Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto in New York on Tuesday for contrition for his past antisemitic rhetoric. The contentious rapper, who now goes by Ye, made headlines this week when he privately met with the rabbi. He expressed remorse for his past actions and explained his bipolar disorder diagnosis. During the conversation, which was translated to the rabbi via a translator, Kanye West accepted full responsibility for his comments. He also attributed the same to his ailment. As of this writing, it is unclear what prompted Ye's sudden remorse. Details about Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto are currently scarce, though he is a renowned spiritual leader in the Jewish community. He is reportedly an Israeli-Moroccan Orthodox rabbi in charge of the Mosdot Shuva Israel organization. He is based in NYC, and back in 2012, Globes business journal declared him as one of the ten wealthiest rabbis in Israel. Everything we know about Kanye West's sudden change of heart: In a post on Instagram, Rabbi Pinto said of his meeting with Kanye West: "Rabbi Pinto welcomed Ye warmly. Encouraged him with words of Torah and light, and praised his will to move closer to truth. Rabbi Pinto said: 'A person is not defined by his mistakes, but by the way he chooses to correct them. This is the true strength of man: The ability to return, to learn, and to build bridges of love and peace.'" It goes on, "Ye came with humility to seek forgiveness and a new chapter of repentance and love among human beings. The meeting concluded with shared hope for a future of respect and unity among nations and faiths, grounded in a commitment to truth and peace."The rapper was notorious for famously praising Hitler and going on antisemitic tirades in 2022 and 2023. In his conversation with the rabbi, he can be heard saying, “I feel really blessed to be sitting here today with you to take accountability. I was dealing with some issues, bipolar, so it would take the ideas I had and take them to an extreme, where I would forget about the protection of the people around me and myself. So I wanted to come and take accountability." As reported by earlier Hot New Hip Hop, just earlier this year, Kanye West asserted that he was abandoning his antisemitic inclinations. "I am done with antisemitism," he said in May. "I love all people. God forgive me for the pain I've caused. I forgive those who have caused me pain." Per the outlet, a FaceTime call with his and Kim Kardashian's children was enough for him to reform. Stay tuned to SoapCentral for more.
