Chris Evans did not appear on the red carpet at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival during the premiere of Honey Don’t!, his new comedy mystery directed by Ethan Coen. Audiences watched the movie during the Midnight Screenings section, where it got a big reaction and earned a six-minute standing ovation at the Grand Theatre Lumiere.

Evans was missing from the premiere even though his co-stars Margaret Qualley, Aubrey Plaza, Charlie Day, and Billy Eichner attended alongside director Ethan Coen. Fans and media noticed his absence and started guessing why he chose to skip such an important global event, especially since the film had already built significant buzz.

Not long after the premiere, Evans spoke about the situation himself on Instagram. He explained that he stayed in the United States to mark a special family event—his mom Lisa's 70th birthday. In his post, Evans wrote,

“I wish I could’ve been with my incredible cast and filmmakers at Cannes, but it was my mother’s 70th birthday and there are some things you just can’t miss!”

Chris Evans feared losing privacy before taking Captain America role, says his mother

In a 2020 interview with Esquire, Chris Evans spoke fondly of his mother, Lisa, calling her "a nut — she’s a character in a movie." In the same article, Lisa shared that Chris once told her his biggest fear about accepting the Captain America role was losing his privacy.

She remembered him saying,

“I have a career I enjoy. I can walk my dog, go anywhere, and no one bothers me. Losing that scares me.”

When he asked her for advice, Lisa told him,

“If you want to act for the rest of your life, this role will give you that chance. You won’t have to worry about money. You just have to decide not to let it affect your life in a bad way — it can actually help it.”

The actor famous for playing Captain America in Marvel's movies has often talked about how much family matters to him. Back in 2017, during an Esquire interview, Chris Evans shared how important his family values are and how close relationships guide his personal choices. Growing up in a tight-knit family in Massachusetts as one of four siblings, he has said many times that his upbringing shaped both his life and his career decisions.

Honey Don’t! is yet another creative project led by director Ethan Coen featuring a talented group of actors. Cast members showed up to do interviews and take photos during the event.
