TikTok star Terryon Thomas, known online as Mr. Prada, is facing legal trouble after being charged with the murder of Baton Rouge therapist, William Nicholas Abraham.
A court has reportedly granted a competency hearing for Thomas to determine if he is mentally fit to stand trial. This step is common in criminal cases where there is concern that the accused may not understand the charges or be able to assist in their defense. The outcome of this hearing will play a key role in deciding how the trial moves forward.
What led to the competency hearing for TikTok star Terryon Thomas?
As reported by BBC News on October 5, 2024, Terryon Thomas was initially accused of second-degree murder and obstruction of justice. The initial charge against the murder was later upgraded by the prosecutors to murder in the first degree.
The investigators discovered some blood evidence, sharp objects, and other objects in the Baton Rouge apartment of Terryon Thomas. DNA tests proved that the blood was of Abraham. According to witnesses, Thomas allegedly dragged something that was wrapped in a blue tarp out of his apartment which was reportedly the victim's body. He also allegedly attempted to escape a traffic stop in a car belonging to Abraham and went on to attempt escaping police in Texas.
The reason why a competency hearing was granted was to avoid complications during the trial in future. Defense attorney, Stephen Sterling III said:
“I wanted to make sure that there’s no insanity issues or competency issues for him to understand, and if there are, let’s address it and make sure we’re doing the right thing.”
