Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev’s quarterfinal match against Australian player Alex de Minaur was met with an unexpected interruption on October 10 at the Shanghai Masters. According to a report by Express UK, attendees wanted a woman from the audience removed because of what she said.
Minaur was waiting for his turn to serve when both players were called to their respective benches. At the time, tennis commentator Nick Lester said:
“We’ve got an issue in the crowd here, going to get this sorted quickly. Thinking security are on their way, possibly. Might be some help. Again, not entirely sure the exact issue, but authorities are up there, we can tell you, trying to sort it out. They just need a little bit of time to resolve this issue.”
Tennis player and commentator Naomi Broady said the confusion in the audience could be because of the heat or a protest among the crowd. Meanwhile, Jonathan Overend replied:
“I think more likely to be the second of those options, Naomi, given how many people are wanting to film the disturbance.”
According to a report by Tennis World USA, in the 16th round of the Shanghai Masters, Daniil Medvedev experienced cramps during the match. The outlet notes that at one point, he even asked a ball girl to help remove his soaked shirt.
Daniil Medvedev on the coolest trophy he won and his favorite Marshmello song
In a 2023 interview with ATP Tour, Daniil Medvedev answered a few fan questions, one of which was about the coolest trophy he had won in his career. He said it would be the Los Cabos one because it made him feel like he had won the World Cup. Medvedev also said:
“I like all of them they are all different they're all special but Los Cabos was a lot of fun because they say it was kind of our own soccer tournament.”
When asked about the game he was playing at that time, Medvedev said he had been playing Rainbow Six Siege for around seven years and enjoyed it because he was good at it. When asked about his phone’s lock screen, he explained that it was a photo he took himself, though he couldn’t remember exactly where.
He guessed it might have been taken near the ocean, possibly in the Maldives or Acapulco, and then laughed, thinking it was probably Acapulco. When asked how he would celebrate his next Grand Slam win, Medvedev said:
“It's gonna be interesting. No, I don't prepare it like this but hopefully I can show it at least one more time in my career or maybe more.”
When asked about his favorite Marshmello song, Daniil Medvedev said he liked Keep It Mello because it was one of the first songs he heard. He also liked Numb and several of Marshmello’s other songs. He added that he found it cool how Marshmello could be famous but still not be recognized because of his mask.
