Gangnam Style singer, Psy or Park Jae-Sang, is under fire after being accused of violating the Medical Service Act. The singer was booked by police on charges of reportedly receiving psychotropic drugs by proxy.

On August 28th, the artist's agency, P Nation, apologized on behalf of the singer and said,

"Receiving a professional medication such as a sleeping pill by proxy is a clear error and oversight. We apologize for this. Singer Psy has been diagnosed with a chronic sleep disorder and is taking sleeping pills according to medical prescriptions."

The statement continued,

"The consumption of sleeping pills has been prescribed in the required dosage under the guidance of medical personnel, and there was no proxy prescription. There was an instance where a third party recieved sleeping pills by proxy in that process, and an investigation is currently underway by the police. We apologize once again for causing concern."

According to The Korea Times, the Seoul Seodaemun Police Station began investigations against Park Jae-Sang and the university hospital Professor, referred to as A. The two were reported to the authorities for alleged violations of the Medical Service Act on August 27.

The police had received a tip-off suggesting that the singer had reportedly received prescriptions for psychotropic drugs (Xanax and Stilnox) without in-person consultations from 2022 until recently. The police also searched the medical facility and are set to continue the investigation.

As per the Korean Law, psychotropic drugs are only allowed to be prescribed through a direct face-to-face consultation with a physician, and the patients are required to pick up the prescriptions themselves.

Proxy pickups are only allowed in exceptional cases and circumstances for family members or caregivers.
