Jennifer Lopez was sued on May 17, 2025, for posting two paparazzi photos of herself from the Golden Globes pre-party to her Instagram and X accounts. The photos include Lopez standing outside Bar Marmont in Los Angeles while attending the Golden Globes pre-party, specifically the Amazon MGM Studios x Vanity Fair Party.
Lopez is being sued by Edwin Blanco, the photographer, and BackGrid USA, a photo agency. The main reason why the Ain't Your Mama singer is being sued is because she posted their licensed pictures without paying for them. Lopez posted photos on January 5, 2025, and according to Blanco's lawyer, her posts have sparked a snowball reaction where fan accounts and the designers (of the clothes she was wearing) started reposting the said photos from their accounts.

Edwin Blanco's attorney, Peter Perkowski, explained the nature of the lawsuit Jennifer Lopez is facing. He said,
"Ms. Lopez's unauthorized use of the Images is commercial in nature, intended for the purpose of self-promotion... For example, Ms. Lopez used the images to spotlight the designer of her clothing and jewelry, leveraging the publicity from the event to promote her fashion affiliations and brand partnerships."
Blanco and BackGrid's representatives contacted Lopez's representatives a week after she posted the photos. According to the attorney, both legal teams had "fruitful discussions" and orally agreed to a monetary settlement. However, Lopez did not sign any written settlement and has not made the payment yet.
According to the lawsuit, Blanco and BackGrind could earn up to $150,000 for each picture Lopez posted.
This is not the first time Lopez has posted licensed pictures of herself for self-promotion. In 2019, she did the same thing by posting a photo of herself with her former partner on Instagram. Peter Perkowski was the one who brought up the case, but it was dismissed voluntarily in the following year.
Regarding the recent lawsuit, Perkowski said:
"This prior litigation placed Ms. Lopez on notice regarding the legal requirements and potential consequences associated with the use of copyrighted images without proper authorization... Despite this, Ms. Lopez has continued to engage in similar conduct, demonstrating a willful disregard for BackGrid’s copyrights through a pattern of behavior that undermines the rights of content creators."
Jennifer Lopez and her legal team have yet to respond to these allegations.
Jennifer Lopez is not the first celebrity to be sued over licensed photos. A few others who faced the same charges were Miley Cyrus, Dua Lipa, Justin Bieber, and more. Keep watching this space for more details about the development of Lopez's case.
