Jillian Michaels, in a recent Daily Mail article published on August 13, reveals her reason behind fleeing California. In 2021, Michaels moved out of Los Angeles and relocated to Miami along with her wife, DeShanna Marie Minuto, and kids.
The American fitness trainer detailed a haunting burglary story which took place in July 2012.
Michaels revealed that she was at her home in Malibu watching TV with her young son and now ex-partner when a man broke into their house,
"The 30-year old career criminal snatched my purse off the kitchen table and stole my car from the garage. When police arrested him, they found duct tape and a video camera in the trunk. I'll always be haunted by the thought that his person had other plans."
Michaels mentioned that the man was sentenced to 17 years in state prison. However, by 2020 he was out on the streets, thanks to Governor Gavin Newsom's pandemic-era early release policy.
"California has weaponized red tape": Jillian Michaels
Jillian Michaels details key events in California which led to her making the decision to flee. The trainer revealed that Gavin Newsom's pandemic-era early release policy, the 2018 wildfires caused by "mismanaged forest, stifling overregulation, dry reservoirs and an underfunded fire department," weaponized red tape, the homeless crisis, high income taxes, and more added to her worries. She said,
"California has weaponized red tape. Recovery is buried under an avalanche of permits, conflicting zoning laws, labor mandates and environmental reviews."
Jillian Michaels also noted that while "billions have been poured into" the emergency homeless programs, there has been no progress, and questioned where the money was being used up. She also insinuated that the money is being "siphoned off by a web of corrupt NGOs and politically connected contractors."
The trainer concluded that she left California since she refuses to live in a state "where safety is a privilege, not a right."
Michaels was born in Los Angeles, California. In the article, she detailed growing up on horseback in the Santa Monica Mountains, surfing in Malibu, and building a career and raising her kids there.
