MrBeast's YouTube channel is popular for its money challenges, but he is reportedly facing backlash over his latest one. The streamer took to his channel on September 27 and posted a video titled, 'Would You Risk Dying For $500,000?' The video opens with the YouTuber asking the challenger,
"Would you risk burning alive for half a million dollars?"
The man, who has been recognised as a professional stuntman, is challenged to free himself from constraints while the room is set on fire and complete 7 other "fire traps". While the stuntman was able to get out of the room, netizens took to X to express criticism towards Jimmy's new content. X user @KillaKreww took to their channel to share a glimpse of the video. Users took to the comment section and described their concerns about the stuntman's life.
One user (@hitmancammonYT) wrote,
"there's something very dystopian about having someone run through a burning building for money and a youtube video."
Another user (@elinavibes) asked,
"at what point does content just become straight up exploitation?"
Many netizens ended up drawing parallels to the riskier challenges with the show Squid Games. Acknowledging that the post had gone viral, MrBeast addressed it in the comment section. He wrote,
"This blew up, if you’re curious obviously we had ventilation for the smoke and a kill switch to cut off the fires. We had professionals test this extensively and the guy in the video as stated is a professional stunt man. I take safety more serious than you could ever imagine."
MrBeast addresses backlash over his latest video
In over a day, MrBeast's latest video has garnered more than 42 million views. Following the backlash about allegedly risking someone's life for a money challenge, a comment was pinned on the YouTuber's uploaded video. He noted,
"In case there’s any concern about the safety of the stuntman contestant, I just wanted to mention that we take safety extremely seriously. Every challenge was tested by multiple stuntmen, we have a full rescue team on standby with firefighters, EMTs and divers equipped with an ambulance and fire truck."
He assured his viewers,
"We also had a pyro team controlling the fires and multiple fire suppression methods on every challenge to ensure we could essentially turn off the fire if there was ever an issue. But our stunt coordinator did an amazing job as always, and none of these systems were ever needed. Just wanted to be transparent with you all since I saw some concern!"
While MrBeast assured his viewers that the safety measures were in place, netizens couldn't understand the rationale behind the challenge. For those wondering about the results, the stuntman ended up winning $35,0000.
