Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale had been detained by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) over an alleged investigation into his tax obligations surrounding the purchase of a yellow 2019 Lamborghini Urus.

According to a Ghanaian news outlet, Pulse, the vehicle was previously seized by the authorities after it was suspected of being allegedly connected to a wide financial scandal in the United States. As per reports by the BBC, the vehicle is seemingly linked to Nana Kwabena Amuah, who is currently serving a seven-year term in jail in the U.S. for fraud.

As per a statement issued by the artist's management, Wale voluntarily appeared at the EOCO office this afternoon with his lawyer, Cephas Biyuo, to assist with inquiries.

The statement read,

"We want to assure all fans and the general public that his legal team is fully engaged and actively working with the authorities to resolve this matter. They are taking all necessary steps to secure his release at the earliest opportunity."

Wale's management also urged fans to remain calm and avoid speculation as the judicial process takes its course.

"We have the utmost confidence in the judicial process."

Shatta Wale and his legal representatives are set to return to EOCO tomorrow morning to continue ongoing discussions with investigators.

Ghanaian Star Shatta Wale criticises Raymond Archer

Shatta Wale, earlier this month, in a public Facebook post, criticized Raymond Archer, head of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), for an "uncalled-for" raid on his residence by armed EOCO officers.

According to reports by Pulse and BBC, Shatta Wale bashed Raymond, stating,

"Raymond Archer, EOCO boss, you go make NDC go out of power next 4 years. Bringing guns to my house was uncalled for!. The President of Ghana didn't put you in that office to come and humiliate the citizens of this country...remember, God no sleep!"

The EOCO had earlier confirmed that Wale's Lamborghini was confiscated at the request of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the United States Department of Justice.

As per EOCO, the vehicle had been identified as an asset obtained through fraudulent means. As per EOCO's statement, Wale was present during the operation at his residence. He cooperated and handed over the vehicle voluntarily, according to Pulse.

According to the BBC, in 2023, the U.S. court ruling also sentenced Amuah to 86 months in prison and required him to pay over $4.7 million in restitution to victims of his alleged fraudulent schemes. The vehicle, which is a 2019 Lamborghini Urus, was part of a list of assets flagged as part of restitution to the victims.

EOCO, in its release at the time, also confirmed that the vehicle would be handed over to the United States authorities as per the judgment issued by the US District Court.
