Former NBA player Patrick Beverley was arrested on felony and assault charges in Texas. The athlete was taken into custody by the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Department on November 14 on a charge of assaulting a family or household member in a way that impedes breathing or circulation, as per court documents viewed by People.

Beverley took to X recently to deny allegations of assault and asked users not to believe everything they see on the internet.

"Please don't believe everything you see on the internet. Hope all is well Luv."

Beverley's lawyer also issued a public statement noting that the athlete is ready to present his side of the story in court. The statement read,

"Patrick Beverley has no criminal record. He cares deeply about his little sister - a young lady, a minor. Given that, when he unexpectedly found her alone in the home with an 18-year old man in the middle of the night, he was understandably concerned, as any brother would be about his sister."

The statement continued,

"However, we don't believe what followed happened the way it's been described, and we look forward to the opportunity to address that in court."

More about Patrick Beverley's arrest

Patrick Beverly paid a bond of $40,000 and was expected to be released from jail later in the day, as per TMZ. However, it is yet to be confirmed if Beverley has been released. In Texas, a third-degree felony has a possible sentence of two to ten years in prison if convicted.

Originally hailing from Illinois, Beverley was a star player at the University of Arkansas before he began professionally playing in Europe and the U.S. He played 12 seasons in the NBA and was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round in 2009.

He also played basketball in Europe for three years. Beverley started his NBA career in the 2012-2013 season with the Houston Rockets and played for five years for the team.

Houston traded Beverley to the Los Angeles Clippers in 2017, and then also played for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Lakers, Chicago Bulls, Philadelphia 76ers, and Milwaukee Bucks.

In 2024, Patrick Beverley apologized for throwing a basketball at a fan in the stands and was suspended for four games after the incident. In late 2024, he signed with the Israeli pro basketball team Hapoel Tel Aviv and "parted ways" with the team in February 2025.
