Young Thug has publicly called out Gunna over issues related to financial support and loyalty, in reference to the fallout in the YSL RICO case.

In a post shared by @AkademiksTV on X on September 7, 2025, Thug can be seen discussing his relationship with Gunna in an episode of Perspektives with Big Bank. The post highlighted the rapper’s disappointment in Gunna, who didn’t support him during a financial crisis. In the clip, Thug says:

“Savage sent money to Thug, Wham sent money to Thug, Pluto sent money to Thug, Cash sent money to Thug, Drake sent CRAZY bankroll to Thug - Gunna didn’t send no bankroll to Thug, Gunna didn’t pull up on Thug momma...”

Young Thug has continued to distance himself from Gunna since he entered an Alford plea deal in the YSL Rico case in December 2022. He has claimed that the fukumean rapper snitched on him by cooperating with the authorities to secure his release.

Here is everything about the case.

All about Young Thug's trial in the YSL Rico Case

The YSL RICO case significantly brought the relationship between Young Thug (born Jeffery Lamar Williams) and Gunna (born Sergio Giavanni Kitchens) into the public spotlight.

In May 2022, both the rappers, alongside 26 individuals, were arrested as part of a RICO indictment against the YSL (Young Slime Life) record label. The charges included violations under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act.

The law enforcement alleged that YSL, which is a record label founded by Young Thug in 2016, is not just a record label but a violent street gang, according to a report in Billboard.

Young Thug’s trial related to the YSL RICO case began in January 2023. This marked the beginning of a highly publicized legal battle where Thug faced serious racketeering charges tied to allegations that his label. During that time, his attorney Brian Steel said:

“Mr. Williams has committed no crime whatsoever. We will fight this case ethically, legally and zealously. Mr. Williams will be cleared."

The court documents explained that YSL is an Atlanta-based street gang that started in late 2012 and “claims affiliation with the national Bloods gang.”

In June 2022, Thug said in a prerecorded address:

“You know, this isn’t about just me or YSL. I always use my music as a form of artistic expression, and I see now that Black artists and rappers don’t have that freedom. Everybody please sign the Protect Black Art petition and keep praying for us. I love you all.”

Gunna was charged with conspiracy to violate the RICO Act. The reports stated that charges against him were less severe than Young Thug. He was released from prison in December 2022. He pleaded guilty to one count of racketeering conspiracy in a YSL gang case. In his statement, he said:

“When I became affiliated with YSL in 2016, I did not consider it a "gang"; more like a group of people from metro Atlanta who had common interests and artistic aspirations. My focus of YSL was entertainment - rap artists who wrote and performed music that exaggerated and "glorified" urban life in the Black community.”

He added:

“I have chosen to end my own RICO case with an Alford plea and end my personal ordeal by publicly acknowledging my association with YSL. An Alford plea in my case is the entry of a guilty plea to the one charge against me, which is in my best interest, while at the same time maintaining my innocence toward the same charge.”
“I love and cherish my association with YSL music, and always will. I look at this as an opportunity to give back to my community and educate young men and women that "gangs" and violence only lead to destruction."

During his release, Fulton County Superior Court Chief Judge Ural Glanville ruled that he was not supposed to establish contact with his co-defendants, according to a report in Fox 5. He was given a four-year suspended sentence.
