IShowSpeed has reportedly been tapped to host YouTube's NFL Brazil game as its commentator.
The Wrap has reported that the IShowSpeed, 21, born Darren Jason Watkins Jr., will be offering live commentary for the forthcoming game alongside three others: Tom Grossi, Robegrill, and SKabeche. They will be using YouTube's Watch With streaming function, which allows creators to offer their own play-by-play on ongoing live events.
While IShowSpeed and Tom Grossi will give their followers their commentaries in English, Robegrill and SKabeche will speak in Spanish. The former two have 43.3 million and 861,000 subscribers on YouTube, respectively, while the latter two have 4.15 million and 13.7 million.
Everything we know about YouTube and IShowSpeed's forthcoming business venture:
Dexerto reports that this will mark the NFL’s first Friday night game of the regular season, with YouTube, owned by Google, paying around $100 million for the global streaming rights. The game is slated for September 5, and it will be a showdown between the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers in São Paulo.
Notably, the four names aren't the only big personalities the streaming platform is collaborating with. Just last week, it was announced that Kick streamer Deestroying will also be a part of the sideline announcing team for the forthcoming game. The streamer has 6.3 million subscribers on the platform alone.
He is now expected to join Peter Overzet, a fellow YouTuber cum fantasy sports fanatic with 19,900 followers, and the “Up and Adams” host Kay Adams, who has 513,000 subscribers, in working the pre-show. NFL Network reporter Stacey Dales will also be working with him as part of the sideline announcing team.
The new “Watch With” feature lets fans tune in to commentary from their favorite streamers, offering an alternative to the familiar voices of Peyton and Eli Manning on ESPN2. These streams will include the full game audio and video from the traditional broadcast, enhanced by the unique perspectives of YouTubers. At the same time, longtime on-air talents like Rich Eisen and Kurt Warner will continue in their established roles, so fans can choose the experience that suits them best.
The Wrap has further reported that the streaming platform will now be rolling out an NFL Sunday Ticket plan monthly. This means that fans can cancel anytime they wish to throughout the season. The plans cost $85 a month for up to four payments. For the returning users, this will cost $115 a month with YouTube TV, or $145 a month for the free version of YouTube.
