Zohran Mamdani has been on quite a roll since being elected as the Mayor of New York City. This includes an unprecedentedly positive interaction with President Donald Trump and several other contributions that will be beneficial for residents of New York.

In the recent news, the newly elected Mayor Zohran Mamdani was interviewed by Pop Base. When asked about the exorbitant ticket prices for the upcoming 2026 World Cup, he was direct about his thoughts:

“I think we have to keep speaking up about the fact that the worth of this tournament, of this sport comes from working class people’s ability to also enjoy it. And right now the ticket prices we’re looking at, I mean the cheapest ticket to attend the final is around $4,000. And when the United States hosted the World Cup the last time, that ticket was less than $200.”

He added:

“Just look at what’s happened over the course of the last few decades. I’ve made it very clear that I think FIFA should end dynamic pricing. I think there should be set asides for local fans at a discount, and I think there should be a cap on resale prices.”

It is clear that Mamdani believes the world’s most popular sport should be made accessible to all fans; it remains to be seen, however, what effects, if any, his remarks will have on the final pricing strategy for World Cup 2026 tickets.

Zohran Mamdani's wife opens up about husbands' political journey, more

In other news, Zohran Mamdani's wife, Rama Duwaji, was recently interviewed by New York Magazine. In the profile, New York City’s incoming first lady shared her perspective on a wide range of topics as her husband’s January 1 inauguration looms.

Interestingly, she shared her thoughts on being referred to as ‘Zohran Mamdani’s Wife’ instead of by her name directly by the media on several instances:

“I wasn’t necessarily offended, but it was more the perception of being seen as someone’s wife. I was spiraling about how, that night, the first article to come out was like, ‘Who Is Zohran Mamdani’s Wife?’ Blah, blah, blah, blah.”

She added:

“And I was so upset because that one article showed up when you searched my name and not an interview I did on my art, or my work, or the things that I’ve done and the achievements that I’ve had as an artist,”

Duwaji continued:

“And now there’s, like, a bajillion of them.

It is clear that Zohran Mamdani's election as mayor is bound to introduce some growing pains for the couple, although they seem well prepared for whatever may be on the horizon.
