Zara Larsson is currently going through a shift in her career. According to the beloved singer, she is recently seeing a change in how she is perceived as a pop hitmaker, an artist with a voice and view, and more.

The Swedish singer recently spoke candidly about this change as she is promoting her fifth studio album, Midnight Sun. In interviews, Zara Larsson has revealed that she feels released from the "Khia Asylum". Speaking to Dazed, Zara Larsson shared:

"I feel like I am out of the Khia Asylum for sure. I am like wait, it’s cool to listen to my songs? I have always loved all my songs, but I think it’s been hard to identify me as an artist. As a person I have always been very secure and confident, but I have been figuring out how to make people understand me as an artist."

Zara Larsson continued:

"Before, people knew my songs, but it feels like they know me [as a person] better now. I am having fun with it, I am posting a lot more, and I know for some artists that’s so annoying, but not for me. It iss literally my dream to be a YouTuber. I just love to say my two cents on the internet and I think people really like that. I’m trying to enjoy the journey, because it’s a really nice feeling. It is nice to feel appreciated, so I am trying to be present in that."

She also added:

"I was so proud of this album, so I felt excited about it. Usually I am anxious before a drop, I am like 'what have I done, I have picked the wrong single!' and I have changed every single one of my album covers the week before it was due to come out. I thought I was just a very indecisive person, but then I realised, those last minute decisions were my way of having control of something that I felt like I was lacking before. Now I am so involved and this album is so me. It was exactly the way I wanted it to be, so it has been validating to see people connecting to it. I know I have had big hits previously, but for the first time in a long time people are curious about me as an artist, rather than just having my song on a popular playlist."

More on Zara Larsson's career

Zara Larsson's career began when she won Talang, Sweden's version of Got Talent, at 10. She eventually broke internationally with hit songs like "Lush Life," "Never Forget You," and Clean Bandit's "Symphony," among others.

By 2013, Zara Larsson scored six UK top ten singles. Her latest album, Midnight Sun, was officially released in September 2025. The title track earned Zara Larsson her first Grammy nomination in the Best Dance Pop Recording category. Speaking about her achievement, Zara Larsson shared:

"It is so insane, I think about it every day actually. I have always felt like I didn’t care about awards or accolades, but I really do care about this. I wonder if it is lame that I care so much, but then I feel lame for thinking that it is lame to care. But this is really big for me. I grew up watching the Grammys and feeling like it was the ultimate recognition."
