Lil Durk, who rose to fame with his mixtape series, Signed to the Streets is currently in jail and is facing federal charges in a murder-for-hire case.

The case has made new developments, and recently, the federal prosecutors have found an unreleased song by Lil Durk, which they believe supports their claims of Durk's involvement in the murder-for-hire case.

However, Durk's lawyers argue that the lyrics came from a YouTube fan page and not directly from Durk. Lil Durk's family has also released a statement saying that the rapper's lyrics are used against him in the case.

Why did the prosecutors seize Lil Durk's unreleased track?

Lil Durk is in jail because he is accused of being involved in the killing of rapper Quando Rondo's cousin, Saviaya Robinson, that happened in 2022. Although it is believed that the actual target was Quando Rondo, also known as Tyquian Terrel Bowman.

Durk was arrested in October 2024 and faced federal charges including firearm offenses and conspiracy to murder-for-hire. As of April 28, 2025, the federal prosecutors argued that Lil Durk should not be out of jail as they believe he still is a threat and also poses a flight risk.

They also mentioned a track titled, Scoom His A**. They argued that this unreleased track has lyrics that match how the actual crime took place, for which Durk is in jail. They said that the song has lyrics implying 'Durk was driving around Beverly Hills with choppers,' and he also calls himself a 'bounty hunter' in the song.

For context, the prosecutors had previously used Lil Druk's other track titled Wonderful Wayne & Jackie Boy as evidence, and alleged that the lyrics in this track reference the shooting incident that happened in 2022, and led to the death of Quando Rondo's cousin, Saviay’a Robinson.

On April 18, 2025, Durk's legal team filed motions claiming that the prosecutors are wrongly using the lyrics from the rapper's song. They also argued that the song was written long before the crime took place. They mentioned that using lyrics from a song as evidence is a misinterpretation of facts and can mislead the case.

Durk's lawyers are currently trying to dismiss the murder-for-hire charges and get him out of jail. His family has also released a statement in which they have shed light on how his own lyrics were used against him in the case and have asked the public to support them. The statement reads:

''The recent developments in Durk’s legal case have brought a harsh truth to light: the government presented false evidence to a grand jury to indict him. This isn’t justice. That's a violation of the very system that’s supposed to protect all of us.”

The statement continues:

''Durk has always used music to tell stories, to express pain to heal—and yet those same lyrics are now being used against him. We refuse to stay silent as Black artists continue to be criminalized for their creativity. Rap is art.''

Lil Durk's hearing is scheduled to be on May 8, 2025.
