Grow a Garden has officially set a world record for the largest number of players in a video game at once, reaching a total of 16,411,769 players. This surpasses the previous milestone of 14,343,880 players achieved by Epic Games' Fortnite. The groundbreaking achievement comes two months after the game's release on Roblox on Wednesday, March 26, 2025.
Prior to the recent feat, the game's developer, Jandel, reshared a post by Roblox_RTC on X, formerly Twitter, on May 15, 2025, announcing that the game “is now the fastest game to reach 1 billion visits, taking 33 days." Riding on his game's success, the post was captioned:
"Fasted game to 1b."
The incremental game's record-breaking success was announced by the popular gaming channel on X Dexerto via a post that reads:
"Roblox game ‘Grow a Garden’ peaked at 16,411,769 players at once, breaking the world record. The previous record was held by Fortnite at 14,343,880 players."
Everything to know about Roblox's Grow a Garden
Grow a Garden dropped on March 26, 2025, on the renowned online gaming platform Roblox. It was originally developed and solely owned by New Zealand-born gamer Janzen Madsen aka Jandel, before a minority share acquisition by American Dev company DoBig studios.
Just as the name of the game implies, the Roblox game is a multiplayer video game in which players plant and harvest crops. Each player would be provided barren lands for cultivation alongside the in-game currency Sheckles for buying seeds. The clicker game supports the growth of plants even without the users logging into the server.
The game also features a premium in-game currency, Robux, that allows for the acquisition of extra perks and the stealing of crops.
On Sunday May 18, 2025, the Blood Moon update was added to the game, increasing the game's CCU, and it later became the first game to reach the five million player count on Roblox.
Following the game's popularity amongst video game fanatics, rumours regarding the company's alleged use of "Bots" for promotional purposes began to spread like wildfire. Debunking the speculations, a representative from Roblox defended the authenticity of the game's accomplishments.
“Grow a Garden’s global success is fueled by exceptional user retention, vibrant social interactions — with friends driving play — and strong Robux engagement," a Roblox spokesperson stated.
He continues, "Our preliminary analysis confirms genuine popularity, not artificial inflation, validating the game’s authentic community-driven growth.”
