Shannon Sharpe, a former National Football League star and ESPN host, is being sued for $50 million for r*pe and battery charges. The woman who is being referred to as Jane Doe filed the case on April 20. She allegedly confronted him after the assault, with text and audio evidence emerging to support her claims.
As per the woman's statement, their relationship started in 2023 at an LA gym. She claims that Sharpe r*ped her and was controlling. According to TMZ, the woman also sent Sharpe a message about the reported sexual assault on January 2, 2025, which reads,
"I don’t care what our history is. no means no shannon."
On Tuesday, part of an audio clip surfaced where a man, reported to be Sharpe, is allegedly heard making threatening comments, including a warning about choking, during a heated exchange with the woman who has accused him of assault.
As per reports, in messages allegedly sent to Sharpe in June and July 2024, the woman expressed interest in role-playing and certain sexual behaviors. According to Shannon Sharpe's lawyer, Lanny J. Davis, these texts by the woman show her interest in unusual sexual activities. He further claimed that after Sharpe declined her wish to have a child with him, her attitude changed towards him.
Shannon Sharpe releases a statement on the ongoing sexual assault lawsuit, calling it a shakedown.
On April 22, Shannon Sharpe released an Instagram video explaining his own side to social media. In the video, he called out Tony Buzbee, Jane Doe's attorney, who previously uploaded a statement on his Instagram regarding the lawsuit.
In the video, Sharpe said,
"This is a shakedown. I'm going to be open and transparent and defend myself because this isn't right. This is all being orchestrated by Tony Buzbee, who has targeted Jay-Z. Tony Buzbee targets Black men, and I believe he's going to release a 30-second clip of a sex tape that tries to make me look guilty and plays into every stereotype you could possibly imagine."
He further added,
"Gabby and Tony Buzbee want $50 million dollars. What they're getting is sued for defamation and trying to take me down. My career is all about real talk and honesty. I know my family and fans know exactly what this is about."
A few hours after its release, Tony Buzbee uploaded a report that showed claims and allegations made in the Sharpe case. He captioned the post with,
"On the one hand Mr. Sharpe and his lawyers claim that the case filed by Jane Doe is meritless, yet on the other hand they now have disclosed that Mr. Sharpe offered Jane Doe $10 million in writing not to file her lawsuit. That is a true statement. Jane Doe was in fact offered $10 million to settle but rejected that offer, choosing instead to proceed with litigation."
The $50 million lawsuit against Shannon Sharpe will now proceed in court, with both sides presenting evidence. Sharpe denies the allegations and plans to sue for defamation.
