Jessica Paster, one of the stylists who was dressing actress and comedian Quinta Brunson for the 2025 Met Gala, was mistreated outside the Carlyle Hotel on May 5, 2025. It was reported that both Paster and Brunson were staying at the Carlyle for the blue carpet event. Additionally, Jessica Paster had already checked in two weeks prior to prep and arranged everything for her client's big night. However, on the night of the gala, the stylist was refused admission into the hotel.
It was reported that Jessica Paster was grabbed by the NYPD outside the entrance of the Tony Carlyle hotel. She was "dragged" past onlookers in the middle of the rain. The incident happened around 3:30 p.m., and there were around 60 people in the area, probably waiting to catch a glimpse of the celebrities staying near the Metropolitan Museum of Art on 82nd Street and 5th Avenue.
Paster's encounter with the police has visibly shaken her. An insider source who spoke to Paster revealed that the stylist was thrown to the ground and she has bruises on both her arms. They also added that Paster might have injuries to her lungs. According to their statement:
"She was shaking after... She was beat up. She hasn’t been able to sleep since. You know, she had her puppy with her — she was worried the puppy would get hurt."

Another insider source did not just blame the NYPD during the incident but also the hotel and its staff. The source said:
"Yes, the New York cops were bad. I think it’s on the hotel. Why should anyone stay there after this? Jess was physically assaulted. She got injured. The Carlyle should have had an employee stationed out there before to make sure real guests with credentials got in."
They added:
"Last minute packages from messengers were going in and out — all of them got drenched. Now everyone involved with this is very upset. It just added chaos to any already chaotic day. The Carlyle should issue an apology. Someone should demand they do."
The previous insider had more to say, even mentioning a few other famous guests. They said:
"Useless security for the hotel just stood there watching — they did nothing! Everyone was stunned. The Carlyle and Mark hotels on Madison deal with Met Ball guests every year, why can’t they get it together? Sydney Sweeney was staying here — what if she walked out without makeup, in a baseball cap? If they’d manhandled her, can you imagine the response! Doechii was smart — she was smuggled out in a box."
So far, there has been no word or apology from the NYPD or the Carlyle Hotel. Jessica Paster has not taken legal action against the hotel, the NYPD, or any parties allegedly involved.
