The prominent political streamer Dan Saltman took to his X (formerly Twitter) on May 22 to allege that the suspect involved in the shooting of two Israeli Embassy staff members that took place on May 21 is a Twitch user.
In his post, he also tagged the CEO of Twitch, Daniel Clancy, and asked him if he thinks the suspect's favorite channel is the same as his. The attack took place on Wednesday, outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C.
The two staff members were a young couple and were attending a diplomatic event, after which they were fatally shot, as per The Guardian.
Dan Saltman alleges DC shooter was a Twitch user
Dan Saltman, who goes under the name 'dancantstream,' is well known for being outspoken about his political views and for doing political commentary. In the past he has also criticised Twitch for their content moderation policies, and was eventually banned from the platform for extreme harassment.
Recently he alleged on X, that the suspect, Elias Rodriguez, involved in the shooting outside of Capital Jewish Museum is a Twitch user. Elias had shot Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim on the night of May 21, and had reportedly shouted 'Free Palestine,' during his arrest.
Dan Saltman wrote on X:
''I can confirm he was a @twitch user.
Hey @djclancy999 do you think his favorite channel was the same as yours? :)
This is why @RitchieTorres was going off on @amazon_policy and @amazon earlier this year. It is creating terrorists.''
Saltman's comments here also refer to the concerns that were raised by Congressman Ritchie Torres about Twitch and Amazon. Back in October 2024, the Congressman had sent a letter to the CEO of Twitch and Amazon executives criticizing them for allowing anti-semitic content; which usually comes from the political streamer Hasan Piker, also known as HasanAbi, as per The New York Post. The letter read:
"Hasan Piker, who has described Orthodox Jews as “inbred” and a Jewish man as a “bloodthirsty pig,” is the anti-Semitic voice of a systemically anti-Semitic platform led by Dan Clancy. The time has come to hold Hasan Piker and Dan Clancy accountable."
In the letter, the Congressman warned that such content could increase violence and that Twitch should not be promoting figures who spread anti-semitic content. Dan Saltman's recent comment where he tagged Twitch's CEO underscores his belief that the platform's failure to address the issue of streamers spreading anti-semitism contributes to radicalization.
The attack that took place on Wednesday night has prompted international condemnation, with the leaders of the US, Israel, and Europe, expressing their solidarity with the families of the victims.
It should be noted that as of now there is no confirmation from law enforcement agencies or Twitch that the suspect involved in the shooting has any association with the Twitch platform, as the investigations are ongoing.
