On June 10, Trace Cyrus, son of Tish Cyrus and Baxter Neal Helson, who was later adopted by Billy Ray Cyrus, called out Billy in an Instagram post for not attending his grandmother Loretta Finley's funeral.
The statement read,
"This man is so hungry for fame it’s pathetic. He really flew to Italy for a fashion show but wouldn’t come to LA for Mammie’s funeral while he was still married to my mom. Even after his daughter got him a 60k private jet like he demanded then he still didn’t come even after the plane was paid for."
He continued,
"You’re the lamest man to ever walk planet earth. Honestly embarrassed to ever have considered you my idol. 🤡 The best thing to come from your downfall is it made me go into beast mode. I refuse to be a washed up, delusional, evil person when I’m old like you. Christ is King. Get right with God. You need it."
The post was referring to his maternal grandmother, Loretta Finley, who passed away in 2020 at the age of eighty-five. She has often been called Mammie by Miley Cyrus in multiple interviews.
As of now, Billy Ray Cyrus or his team has not responded to Trace Cyrus’s allegations.
Trace Cyrus writes an emotional letter to Billy Ray Cyrus on social media
While Trace Cyrus's recent post has gained attention, it isn’t the first time he has publicly spoken about Billy Ray on social media. A few months back, in January, Trace uploaded a teenage photo of himself with Billy Ray Cyrus, in which he admired him.
"I wanted to be just like you. The day you adopted me was the happiest day of my life."
However, in the next lines, he shows concern toward Billy by adding,
"Sadly the man that I wanted so desperately to be just like I barely recognize now. It seems this world has beaten you down and it’s become obvious to everyone but you. You may be upset with me for posting this but I really could care less at this point."
The caption also mentioned Billy Ray Cyrus’s daughter, Noah, saying she has always wanted him in her life but feels hurt and pushed away. He shared that despite everything, they still care and miss the person he used to be. Trace also revealed he’s been sober for over a year and offered to help Billy if he’s willing to reconnect by writing.
"I’d love to help you if you would open up and receive the help. You know how to reach me. Till that day comes I will continue to pray for you."
Billy Ray Cyrus indirectly responded to Trace Cyrus’s post by sharing a clip from the music video of “Somebody Said a Prayer." The video also featured Trace Cyrus. The description of the video read,
"Praying for the brokenhearted and their pain. Praying for my family. For my children … sons and daughters…and their mother. Let this moment be the start of healing ❤️🩹 for us all. “The past does not equal the future." Amen 🙏🏼"
Billy Ray Cyrus divorced Tish Cyrus in April 2022 and shares five children with her (two adopted and three biological). He is currently in a relationship with Elizabeth Hurley.
