1. The 6-7 Frenzy

Undoubtedly, our choice for the 'Word of the Year' of 2025, this 'phrase' originated from drill rapper Skrilla's number Doot Doot, but quickly evolved into tweens' universal response for everything. It's, perhaps, the 2025 version of 'skibidi' — meaningless, repetitive, and used by Gen Alpha to confuse anyone over the age of 20.

2. Coldplay 'Kiss Cam'

During a July concert, the Jumbotron captured an embracing couple who immediately panicked and hid. When internet sleuths discovered they were upper management executives of tech company Astronomer reportedly having an illicit affair, the 'corporate scandal' meme was born, and 'caught on the Coldplay cam' soon became shorthand for getting busted in 4K.

3. Katy Perry’s 'Ground-Kissing' Return

Katy Perry created history this year as part of Blue Origin's mission to space. However, it was her over-the-top reaction on her return that etched her name on the walls of internet infamy. On her return, the pop star bent over and 'kissed' the earth with such fervour that it was immediately parodied by brands and creators. Even fast-food chain Wendy’s social media team got in on the action by responding 'Can we send her back?' giving rise to its own set of memes.

4. 'Demonic' Labubu Dolls

What started as a cute designer toy popularized by BLACKPINK's Lisa quickly spiralled into a bizarre conspiracy meme. TikTokers began claiming the dolls were possessed by ancient demons, leading to countless memes on the interwebs.

A classic case of internet absurdism at its finest, this nonsensical phrase took over the social networks just as the year kicked off. Poking fun at the skyrocketing prices of daily groceries, the phrase, which started off as a tongue-in-cheek political stand, soon turned into an oft-repeated online joke.

6. The 100 Men vs. 1 Gorilla Debate

If 2015 had the mysterious 'yellow and white dress', then a decade later, we were engrossed in finding out the answer to a seemingly impossible thought experiment. The rhetorical question divided the internet for months, with netizens either betting on the 100 men or the 1 gorilla.

7. "Nothing Beats a Jet2 Holiday!"

During a year when virality was as random as it was ubiquitous, an old jingle from across the pond was heard by millions around the world. Originally a part of UK-based Jet2 Airlines' 2016 campaign, the voiceover, combined with Jess Glynne's 2015 hit song Hold My Hand, was heard with 'fail' compilation memes all over the world.

The inaugural mass of the new Pope is always a global affair, but this year, the process of electing the first American Pope turned into a massive digital event. Pope Leo XIV, dubbed with names like 'The Chicago Pope' and 'White Smoke', had numerous memes made on him with fans even treating his conclave like the NFL Draft!

While an old trend in itself, this year the 'starter pack' meme went 3D. With AI image generators galore, netizens quickly dumped Instagram photo grids to photo-realistic 'starter packs' of different types of people.
