Tyler Robinson has made his first court appearance concerning the Charlie Kirk Case. Robinson is regarded as the main suspect in the murder of right-wing activist Kirk, who was shot dead on September 10, 2025.

TMZ’s report published on September 16, 2025, stated that the 22-year-old Utah native was stone-faced and showed no emotion as he stood before a judge for the first time. Robinson’s charge was recently updated to aggravated murder, with prosecutors informing the court that they would seek the death penalty.

The accused reportedly remained unfazed when the death penalty was brought up in court. Prosecutors have released more evidence tying Robinson to the murder. A slew of text messages between the 22-year-old and his roommate on the day of the murder seemingly show Robinson confessing to shooting Kirk and giving reasons for his heinous crimes.

In the text message, Robinson wrote:

"I had enough of his hatred. Some hate can't be negotiated out. If I am able to grab my rifle unseen, I will have left no evidence. Going to attempt to retrieve it again, hopefully they have moved on. I haven't seen anything about them finding it."

Tyler Robinson was turned in to the police by his parents after they recognized him in the person of interest image shared by the police. They reportedly called their son and convinced him to return to their home after they had contacted a retired deputy sheriff to initiate his surrender to law enforcement.

More evidence against Robinson has since been found, including bullet casings from the scene of the murder with antifascist messages on them. Utah County attorney Jeff Gray, in a statement hours before Robinson’s court appearance, released all of the suspect’s formal charges. He said:

"The murder of Charlie Kirk is an American tragedy. As county attorney, I am charged with bringing justice to those who offend our laws."

Gray added that Tyler Robinson is being charged with aggravated murder, two counts of obstruction of justice, two counts of witness tampering and one count of committing a violent offense in front of children. He also formally notified the court of his intent to seek the death penalty:

"I do not take this decision lightly, and it is a decision I have made independently as county attorney, based solely on the available evidence and circumstances and nature of the crime,"
