Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of Vogue, is stepping down from her position. As per reports by WWD, Anna announced on Thursday morning, June 26, during an internal staff meeting.

Although Anna will be stepping down from her current position, as per People, she will stay on as Condé Nast’s global chief content officer and global editorial director at Vogue, continuing to oversee global brand strategies and major events.

The new position of the head of editorial content is created to handle day-to-day editorial operations, and the individual in this position would be reporting directly to Wintour. Over three decades of her career, Wintour oversaw every global brand, including Glamour, Bon Appétit, Tatler, Vanity Fair, GQ, and Allure, among others.

More about Anna Wintour stepping down from her position

Known widely as the 'queen of fashion,' Anna began her journey at Vogue in 1988. She is best known for her contributions to redesigning the fashion media. From introducing fashion covers to turning Vogue into a cultural force, Wintour has done it all. On Thursday, as she announced the news of stepping down from her position, she said:

''Anybody in a creative field knows how essential it is never to stop growing in one’s work. When I became the editor of Vogue, I was eager to prove to all who might listen that there was a new, exciting way to imagine an American fashion magazine.''

She continued:

''Now, I find that my greatest pleasure is helping the next generation of impassioned editors storm the field with their own ideas, supported by a new, exciting view of what a major media company can be. And that is exactly the kind of person we need to now look for to be HOEC for US Vogue.''

She also added that most of her responsibilities at Vogue would remain the same, including paying close attention to the fashion industry and charting the course of future Vogue Worlds. She concluded by saying:

“But how thrilling it will be to work alongside someone new who will challenge us, inspire us, and make us all think about Vogue in a myriad of original ways.''

While the global search for the new Head of Editorial Content for Vogue US is ongoing, no names have been confirmed yet.
