Katy Rose got up close and personal with PEOPLE, where she spoke about her music career, relationship with some of her colleagues, and plans for the future. The I Like hitmaker also alleged that she and Avril Lavigne were signed to the same record label at some point in the early years of her career.
The singer added that although she had gotten a label deal before Lavigne, her projects were shelved in favor of the latter:
"And I know Avril, she's a really sweet girl, but we're different. I was more of a writer, and she's, I think, a much better singer."
What made matters worse was that the streaming era took off shortly after her first album, Candy Eyed, was released. She described being abandoned by her record label as “heartbreaking.”
She also added that she didn't blame Avril Lavigne for what transpired then:
"It really screwed it for me — and that's not Avril's fault at all. Those brutal things will happen, and it's hard not to feel crushed or feel like it's your fault, because when you're a kid, you think everything's your fault. You think everything's about you. But it's not, it's just business."
“Unfortunately, it took longer to put my album out because I was in the hospital,” Katy Rose says as she reveals that she battled anorexia at 11
Katy Rose revealed that she developed an eating disorder at the age of 11 when the album Because I Can was released in 2004.
Although the singer was featured in one of the soundtracks titled Mean Girls and secured a career boost as a result, she revealed that she didn't enjoy the opportunity as she battled complications from Anorexia:
"Unfortunately, it took longer to put my album out because I was in the hospital, which was a real drag."
After unsuccessfully trying to break into the music Industry in 2007, Rose moved back to Los Angeles and began studying at a local community college. She also taught Yoga and owned a children’s theater. She told the magazine:
"I performed around L.A., but I couldn't be 'Katy Rose' anymore. I committed to doing what was best for me."
Katy Rose traveled and learnt songwriting techniques from around the world. While she didn't venture to release any music, she revealed that she never stopped writing music:
"I have loads of songs that I don't know if I'll ever release, but I just wasn't allowed to release under my name. So it was a whole nightmare."
Katy Rose released Fully Alive in June 2025, which features tracks like Voices, Carry, and I Got You.
