Comedian Ali Siddiq appeared on the Club Shay Shay podcast on May 8, 2025. In his conversation with host Shannon Sharpe, Siddiq talked about his journey, how Shaq owes him 1000 dollars, and the death of his sister and son. In one part of the conversation, Shannon brought up late rapper Tupac Shakur, who was shot in a drive-in shooting in 1996.
Shannon asked Siddiq if he knew Tupac when he was with the hip-hop group, "Digital Underground." Ali revealed he first met Tupac at a "rap convention," and at that time, he didn't know he was. He added,
"He was a dancer, you know, with Digital Underground, but it wasn’t this “thug” persona, and how would it be a thug persona to somebody who already thuggin’ in the streets. Like I am already a wild man”
Ali Siddiq's comments about Tupac raises fans concern

Ali Siddiq talked about his encounter with rapper Tupac and how, in his first interaction, he didn't see the latter as a "thug persona." He added,
"I didn't see Tupac like everybody else saw him. Even when I was locked up, I used to be like, 'Man, that kid wasn't no thug like that.'"
Siddiq was referencing his time in prison when he was reportedly imprisoned for six years because of "drug trafficking." His comments raised mixed reactions from fans and viewers. Netizens took to @Clubshayshay's comment section. One user (@AdamTate702) wrote,
"Talking down on a legend that is no longer here makes you look crazy. Brotha’s gotta do better."
Another netizen (@jdaflame) came to defend Tupac's legacy and said,
"How come he didn’t say that when pac was alive ? Everybody tryna get they cool points in now lmao."
While fans remain divided on whether Tupac was a thug or not, Ali Siddiq revealed the effects of being on the "street" on his life. He also expressed regret and noted that he had apologized to his mother time and again. He added that he doesn't want others or his children to go to the street.
Ali Siddiq spoke about his first interaction with Tupac and noted that he didn't see him as a thug. While his comments left the internet divided, Ali Siddiq noted that he had been on the street and was doing "wild" things, which have pushed him to learn and be better.
