Apple has introduced a new design language called “Liquid Glass,” across its operating systems, starting with iOS 26. It was unveiled at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025 on Monday, June 9, 2025.

According to Apple,

“This translucent material reflects and refracts its surroundings, while dynamically transforming to help bring greater focus to content, delivering a new level of vitality across controls, navigation, app icons, widgets, and more.”

The updated design features dynamic rendering in real time and responds to motion by displaying reflective highlights. This will offer users a livelier experience across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple TV.

He added:

“This is our broadest software design update ever. Meticulously crafted by rethinking the fundamental elements that make up our software, the new design features an entirely new material called Liquid Glass.”

He concluded by saying,

“It combines the optical qualities of glass with a fluidity only Apple can achieve, as it transforms depending on your content or context. It lays the foundation for new experiences in the future and, ultimately, it makes even the simplest of interactions more fun and magical.”

The new Liquid Glass design mimics the behavior of actual glass. The app icons have been redesigned with multiple layers of Liquid Glass. There is a new, clear look that blends well with both light and dark modes.

According to reports from Apple’s WWDC 2025 event, there is a new feature called Live Translation, which will automatically translate text messages and captions in FaceTime calls in foreign languages, with the help of artificial intelligence. The company showcased many more features at the WWDC 2025 event, including the camera app, Photos, Safari, Lock Screen, and more.
