Grande presented the MTV Video Vanguard Award to Mariah Carey. She thanked the Obsessed hitmaker for her contributions to music, admitting that Mariah had inspired a lot of singers, including herself.

In her acceptance speech, Mariah acknowledged Ariana Grande:

“Thank you, Ari. This moonman is very heavy. She’s so little, and she’s gonna hold him. She’s cutest. I love you. I’m so grateful to you and am beyond proud of everything you’ve achieved, girl.”

Ariana Grande was nominated for Best Pop Artist, Video of the Year, Best Long Form Video, Best Pop Song, Best Direction, Best Cinematography, and Best Visual Effects at the 2025 VMAs.

Upon her arrival on the red carpet, Grande met up with fellow singer Sabrina Carpenter, also nominated in the Best Pop Artist category. Sabrina was dressed in Valentino's sheer red gown featuring a long skirt and a turtleneck design.

The Espresso hitmaker wore a lavender stole around her arms. The duo chatted for a while before they hugged each other.
