Chance the Rapper, also known as Chancelor Johnathan Bennett, appeared on the New Rory & Mal podcast, ahead of his new album release, Star Line. In the episode, Chance sat with New Rory & Mal, and they spoke on various topics, including the rapper's relationship with Ye, also known as Kanye West.

When Chance was asked about his friendship with Ye, he said:

''And I was gonna say…honesty is the best policy — I haven’t talked to him in a long time. He’s one of the most influential people in my music. I’ll always love Kanye, but just being honest, I haven’t talked to him in a while.''

The rapper's album Star Line is scheduled to be released on August 15, 2025, and it follows his previous 2019 album, The Big Day.

During the episode, the host asked the rapper if any of the tracks he and Ye had worked on in the past would be on the upcoming album, to which he replied, saying that none of those tracks made it onto Star Line. Speaking more about his friendship with Ye, as per Billboard, he said:

''He was at my wedding, our kids have hung out together. I feel like I’ve been hella busy — I’m working on sh–. He’s obviously been busy. I be trying not to take opportunities to diss mother—-ers or add too much to the story.''

The rapper was then asked if he would contact Ye once the album drops, to which he replied:

''The way that I think about my world is, I be thinking about my day. So, what I gotta do that day and what I’m working on for the next two weeks, maybe six months.''

He then went on to share the kind of friendship dynamic he has with people. He said:

“My relationships and how I view people as friends and stuff is just, ‘Have I loved this person? And have they ever willfully and intentionally betrayed me?’ I got friends that I haven’t talked to in five or six, seven years. It’s not like I’m anticipating some conversation......”

He then went ahead and explained that the friendship between him and Ye is rather complicated, pointing out that they aren't peers, but added that he holds Ye in high regard.

Star Line is the rapper's second studio album, and it includes tracks like Space & Time, Tree, featuring Lil Wayne and Smino, Link Me in the Future, and Ride, featuring Do or Die, among other tracks.
