Donald Trump and Elon Musk reunited at Charlie Kirk's memorial, held on September 21, at State Farm Stadium in Arizona. The two experienced a huge rift earlier this June due to the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, posting remarks about each other online.
Their reunion came as an unexpected surprise for the fans of the two, with them sharing a video of the two sitting and talking to each other during the event and shaking hands, showing a sense of mutual respect.
Donald Trump delivered a long speech at Charlie Kirk's memorial:
"Less than two weeks ago, our country was robbed of one of the brightest lights of our times. A giant of his generation and, above all, a devoted husband, father, son, Christian, and patron. Charles James Kirk was heinously murdered by a radicalized cold-blooded monster for speaking the truth."
In another line, he said:
"He did not hate his opponents, he wanted the best for them. That’s where I disagreed with Charlie. I hate my opponents, and I don’t want the best for them, I’m sorry."
Donald Trump also described Charlie as one of the great individuals who dedicated himself to serving the country. He added that, rather than silencing his opponents, Charlie would give them a microphone to speak and, in doing so, persuaded many of them. Additionally, towards the end of the speech, Donald Trump also took an indirect jab at Jimmy Kimmel.
What did Elon Musk say during Charlie Kirk's memorial?
When asked about Kirk in the memorial, Elon Musk said:
"Charlie was someone who believed in dialogue and in open debate. He was a man of his ideas. He spoke eloquently. He basically never even raised his voice. He was a man of peace, and now he's been murdered in cold blood."
Elon Musk also revealed that the two had met numerous times and knew each other personally. When asked by a reporter why Charlie was killed, Musk said it was because:
"His words made a difference. He was showing people the light and he was killed by the dark."
What did Charlie Kirk say about Donald Trump and Elon Musk's rift?
Their reunion has sparked discussions about Kirk’s past comments made during the public feud between Donald Trump and Elon Musk. While talking to Laura Ingraham in June, Charlie said:
"It’s been hard to watch today and unfortunate in some regards. And I love your take, which is both of these men deserve great credit for their contributions to help save civilization. Elon Musk bought Twitter, which, of course, became X a couple years ago, which liberated speech. And then, of course, President Trump built the most amazing political movement we’ve ever seen. He was shot, almost shot again."
He added:
"It's a tough thing to watch this public feud. I actually think they’re going to reconcile at some point, though, because, deep down, I would like to believe they both want the same thing."
His last comments have been circulating widely online, as many noted that his hope of seeing the two reconcile seemed to come true during his memorial.
