Elmo, the Muppet character on the show Sesame Street, was trending on the internet on July 13 for posting controversial statements on X (formerly Twitter). The drama started after Elmo's X account, which has over 600k followers, posted a number of tweets involving Trump, the Epstein files, and Jews. One tweet read:

"Elmo says ALL JEWS SHOULD DIE. F*CK JEWS. DONALD TRUMP IS NETANYAHU’S PUPPET BECAUSE HE IS IN THE EPSTEIN FILES. JEWS CONTROL THE WORLD AND NEED TO BE EXTERMINATED."

Another tweet, involving Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein read:

"RELEASE THE FILES @realDonaldTrump CHILD F*CKER."

The account also posted a tweet that read:

"Kill all Jews."

Additionally, the account reportedly replied to other users in a similar hateful and aggressive tone, which quickly caught the attention of people online and led to widespread backlash. However, all the tweets and replies were soon deleted by the team managing the account.

Sesame Workshop responds to Elmo’s controversial tweets

Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit behind Sesame Street, explained the reason behind antisemitic tweets in a statement to Fox News shortly after the incident:

"Elmo’s X account was compromised today by an unknown hacker who posted disgusting messages, including antisemitic and racist posts. We are working to restore full control of the account."

As of now, the latest tweet on the character's account shows him wishing Happy Gotcha Day to Tango, the character's puppy, which was posted on July 12. While the tweets have now been deleted, people on the internet are still talking about the incident and sharing their thoughts on what happened.

Matthew Foldi, Washington Reporter editor-in-chief, uploaded a tweet on July 14 with a screenshot of now-deleted tweets:

"Elmo would win at least 10% in a nationwide Democratic primary based on these tweets alone"

A similar incident happened last week with Grok, Elon Musk's AI chatbot, when it made antisemitic posts mentioning H*tler and Jews, which were deleted later. Soon after, the company released a statement that read:

"We are aware of recent posts made by Grok and are actively working to remove the inappropriate posts. Since being made aware of the content, xAI has taken action to ban hate speech before Grok posts on X."

Fans are now waiting to see if the character will return to the platform with his usual posts or if Sesame Workshop will release another official update on its social media to address the situation and give more updates on it.
