Jacklyn Bezos, the mother of Jeff Bezos, passed away on August 14 in her Miami house. She was 78. The Amazon founder on Instagram announced the news with a tribute post that read:

"Her (Jackie Bezos) adulthood started a little bit early when she became my mom at the tender age of 17. That couldn’t have been easy, but she made it all work. She pounced on the job of loving me with ferocity, brought my amazing dad onto the team a few years later, and then added my sister and brother to her list of people to love, guard, and nourish."

Continuing the caption, he wrote:

"For the rest of her life, that list of people to love never stopped growing. She always gave so much more than she ever asked for."

Jeff Bezos revealed that his mother had been battling Lewy body dementia, which led to her passing. She was diagnosed with dementia in 2020, according to the Bezos Family Foundation. She was surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and her husband, Miguel Bezos, in her final moments. Bezos concluded by saying he will keep her memory alive in his heart forever.

The post received numerous supportive messages, including one from Bezos’s wife, Lauren Sánchez, who wrote:

"We will miss her SO much. Love you ❤️💔"

Jacklyn Bezos was married to Ted Jorgensen from 1963 to 1965. After their divorce, she married Miguel Bezos in 1968. In 2000, the couple co-founded the Bezos Family Foundation, where Jacklyn Bezos served as president and as Board Chairwoman Emerita. Miguel Bezos currently serves as Chair of the Board of Directors.

"Jackie was a devoted mother, always putting her children first. She made countless trips to Radio Shack for Jeff, spent numerous hours supervising cheerleading practices with Christina, and hauled drums in the back of the family station wagon for Mark. She dedicated her life to her family and poured her heart into raising her children with compassion, patience, and wisdom."

The tribute spoke about Jackie’s love for education, mentioning she went back to college and earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Saint Elizabeth University at the age of 45, inspiring everyone around her.

Jacklyn Bezos is survived by her husband, Mike, and her three children, including Jeff Bezos and his partner Lauren, Christina and her partner Steve, and Mark and his partner Lisa. She was a grandmother to eleven and a great-grandmother to one.
