American civil rights activist Jesse Jackson has been hospitalized after suffering from supranuclear palsy (PSP) - The Rainbow PUSH Coalition, which he founded, informed on Wednesday.

In a statement, the organisation said,

"He has been managing this neurodegenerative condition for more than a decade. He was originally diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease; however, last April, his PSP condition was confirmed. The family appreciates all prayers at this time.

PSP is a rare neurological disorder that affects the body and eye movements, particularly impairing walking and balance. The condition is degenerative and often leads to serious disability within two to three years after diagnosis.
