Charlie Kirk's memorial service will be held at the State Farm Stadium, Arizona, on September 21, which falls on a Sunday. Police Administrator Jose Santiago spoke to Radar Online in an exclusive interview, revealing how law enforcement is planning to cover the huge-scale event.
Two years ago, Super Bowl LVII was hosted in the same stadium, which means the police force has ideas on how to manage security for a big event. On top of that, high-profile attendees such as President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio will be present. This means that the Secret Service will also be present at the stadium.
Santiago spoke to Radar Online, explaining how they are planning to go about security. He said:
"We'll be providing the same level of service that we provide for any other event. We'll have officers patrolling the area and monitoring everything from outside the stadium."
Jose Santiago also mentioned that the Arizona Department of Public Safety will be working together with the Secret Service inside the stadium, while the Glendale P.D. will work with the federal law enforcement agency outside of the venue.
Anthony Guglielmi, the spokesperson for the Secret Service, also said in a statement:
"The Secret Service joins the nation in offering our deepest condolences to the Kirk family and friends. Joint security planning is underway for the memorial and funeral of Charlie Kirk, and appropriate public safety-related information will be provided as the process matures in the coming days."
Other big events besides Charlie Kirk's funeral hosted at the State Farm Stadium
Jose Santiago also mentioned that they will be dealing with the memorial service in a similar way they have dealt with other big events held at the stadium in the past.
In his words:
"We're going to handle this as we would any other major event... We obviously had a very successful Super Bowl when it was here, and we handle major events when it comes to concerts, sporting events, and that's basically how we'll handle this as well...the same kind of ordeal for us."
In addition to Super Bowl LVII, it has also hosted other Super Bowl games in 2008 and 2015. Another major event at State Farm Stadium happened in 2023, when Taylor Swift kicked off her 'Eras Tour'.
