Durk Derrick Banks aka Lil Durk was detained on 25 October, 2024, in Florida by federal law enforcement authorities, namely Broward County's U.S. Marshals. He was arrested after a federal indictment of a suspected murder-for-hire conspiracy over the 2022 Los Angeles slaying of Saviay'a Robinson, who was a cousin to rapper Quando Rondo.

Reports from NPR and BBC News indicate that the shooting was in retaliation of the killing of Chicago rapper King Von, a high-ranking lieutenant in Durk's crew, Only the Family (OTF), in 2020. Several members of OTF have also been charged with the case.

NPR states that Durk was arrested as he attempted to leave the country. Some of his colleagues who work with him at OTF have also been taken into custody and charged with the case. Durk has so far pleaded not guilty to all charges, and his lawyers are struggling to get him released on bail.

The charges and legal proceedings against Lil Durk

As per Variety, Rolling Stone, and Forbes, Lil Durk has serious federal indictments, such as conspiracy to use the facilities of an interstate for purposes of committing a murder-for-hire, among others, connected to the killing of Saviay'a Robinson.

The reported shooting was preceded by a plan in a spate of violence, following on from the previously reported killing of King Von. Durk got involved through many people who were part of the OTF crew and are all charged.

According to Power 100.9 iHeart, in December 2024, Durk's attorneys offered a $3 million bond package consisting of $2.3 million in real estate equity and $1 million in cash from his record label. A federal judge rejected this offer, citing fear of Durk's possible flight risk and other investigations against him. These investigations allegedly include another 2022 murder case in Chicago.

Bond denial and ongoing legal developments

According to Forbes, following the bond denial, Durk's lawyers submitted a motion in April 2025 to have the decision reversed. The motion mentions fresh evidence and legal grounds on which they argue on behalf of the release of Durk. No decision has been made on his release as of April 2025, though, and Durk is still behind bars.

Durk's trial in January 2025 has been rescheduled to October 14, 2025. Both sides have cited a requirement of extra preparation time, as well as fresh evidence in the case, for the delay. Before the trial commences, both sides will need to present arguments for the legitimacy of the charges brought against Durk and whether or not his future will be affected.

So far, the case is still in its initial stages, with motions still pending and negotiations under the law continuing. Durk still has federal charges pending against him.
