South Korean rapper B-Free, whose real name is Choi Seong-ho, has been sentenced to prison for assaulting an apartment resident in June 2023.
According to a report in All KPop, the incident occurred when the rapper got into an argument with a security guard over entry issues. He then punched a resident who tried to intervene, knocking him to the ground. This reportedly resulted in facial fractures and optic nerve damage. As a result, the resident suffered visual impairment in the lower right field of vision.
The decision was announced by Presiding Judge Woo In-sung on July 15, 2025, at the Seoul Central District Court’s Criminal Agreement Division 27. He sentenced B-Free to 1 year and 4 months in prison for causing bodily injury.
Born on August 19, 1985, in Hawaii, US, B-Free debuted in the music industry in 2009, according to his profile on Fandom. He is recognized in the underground hip-hop scene, notably as a member of crews such as The Cohort, Green Club, and Sticky Mafia.

Rapper B-Free: Controversies and assault cases
Rapper B-Free has been at the centre of many criminal cases and controversies previously. According to a report by All KPop, in March 2024, the rapper faced police investigation for allegedly disrupting an election campaign of a candidate from the conservative party.
A police report claimed that he was accused of pushing and verbally abusing Kim Jae Seob, a campaigner for the candidate in Seoul’s Dobong district on February 16, 2024.
In 2020, as per a report in Korea JoongAng Daily, the 39-year-old rapper was arrested by police on charges of inflicting physical violence on another rapper, Jeong Jin-chae, known as Kingchi Mane.
According to the report, they were throwing rhymes at each other on Instagram when the South Korean rapper got furious at one of Mane’s comments. He allegedly went to his home and punched him in the face at a villa parking lot in Huam-dong, central Seoul.
Another report in All KPop stated that in 2016, B-Free was caught in a controversy for saying that he would “bi__h slap” them after being agitated by their fanbase. The row between BTS and B-Free stemmed from a November 2013 incident, B-Free made negative remarks about the makeup worn by Suga and RM during Kim Bong Hyun's Hip-Hop Invitational 1st Anniversary Broadcast.
According to a report in the South China Morning Post, he said they “could have continued on the path to become rappers but couldn’t resist the temptation of money”.
His apology was reportedly rejected by BTS fans, after which he fired back at them and said in a post,
“I swear BTS got some retarded a-- fans. Y'all did it congrats! When I see your oppas I'mma bi--h slap them so hard for all of y'all thank you.”
In his current case, the court acknowledged that the rapper has expressed a commitment to avoid violence in the future. Both the singer and the prosecution have reportedly appealed to the court for first first-instance ruling.
