Dave Burgess was a singer, musician, and producer. He was widely known during his time with the American rock and roll band, The Champs. Dave was the leader of The Champs and played the rhythm guitar. Burgess is also known for writing the hit Latin-tinged song, Tequila, which is still listened to today. At the time of its release, the song topped the charts in 1958.

The Champs played from 1957 to 1965 before Burgess brought them back to life in 2020. Burgess has penned more than 700 songs during his career, and in 1958, he took home a Grammy at the inaugural Grammy Awards. Tequila, one of their songs, was awarded a Grammy for Best R&B Performance.

Dave Burgess died on October 19 of last month, according to his obituary. When he passed away, he was 90 years old. The public has not been informed of the cause of death.

More about Dave Burgess

Dave Burgess was born in Los Angeles, California, and was raised by his mother and stepfather. When he grew up, after releasing the hit single Tequila, he married his wife, Deon Adair Raab, a professional actress and dancer, the following year.

After their wedding, Burgess and Raab decided to move out of Hollywood to settle in Montana. They took their two children, Dave and Charmaine, along with several pets with them. This is where they started an art gallery.

They stayed in Montana for a while but returned to Nashville. This was when Burgess revived The Champs again and continued making music.

However, besides his music career:

"Dave was an avid hunter and fisherman," his obituary reads.

Furthermore, his celebration of life service was held a few days ago, on November 8, at the Anglin Funeral Home. Those who wish to send messages of comfort or tributes may do so on anglinfuneralhome.com.

Dave Burgess leaves behind a remarkable legacy, creating timeless music like Tequila. His life stretched far beyond the stage, filled with family, creativity, and a deep love for the outdoors. Though he is gone, his influence and the joy he brought through his music will continue to live on.
