Drake's litigation against UMG doesn't appear to slow down. According to a new update, a new person, Kojo Menne Asamoah, has reportedly been named in contributing to the Canadian rapper's defamation. According to Billboard, Drake and his legal team have alleged that Kojo Menne Asamoah used "bots" to inflate streaming numbers of Kendrick Lamar's Not Like Us.
While it is unclear who Kojo is and if he is associated with Kendrick Lamar, some speculate he is someone who works in digital marketing or is from the music industry. However, no official information about Kojo has been revealed. According to sources, Drake and his legal team have reportedly "spent over $75K attempting to serve a subpoena on Kojo."
Kojo Menne Asamoah named by Drake’s team for allegedly paying the bots in Kendrick Lamar’s success
Drake's complaint was reportedly filed on June 4, but only became public by July 14, per Billboard. Additionally, the news outlet reported that Drake's team has named "63 names" in his lawsuit against Universal Music Group. According to X user @OVODocket, Kojo has been alleged to be,
"in possession of relevant documents and information for the Violation of New York General Business Law."
The law, which reportedly has been cited in the lawsuit,
"centers around deceptive business practices allegedly used by UMG and UMG employees for the promotion of Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us”.
It is unclear if Kojo or any other witnesses will be summoned to court in their alleged links to the lawsuit. However, witnesses can be requested to submit documents that may impact the course of the filing. According to Billboard, Drake has reportedly not directly named Kendrick Lamar in the defamation lawsuit, but rather has involved major names in the industry, including,
"UMG CEO Sir Lucian Grainge, Universal Music Publishing Group chief Jody Gerson, Interscope CEO John Janick and Republic co-founders Avery Lipman and Monte Lipman."
Kojo Menne Asamoah was named as one of the primary individuals involved in the defamation lawsuit. It is unclear if he has been summoned to court or is associated with Kendrick Lamar himself. The lawsuit is reportedly being handled by Drake and Lamar's legal teams, with neither appearing in court.
