MrBeast's latest video, Lose 100 Pounds, Win $250,000!, has now captured the attention of millions. The video featured MrBeast's friend Majd Khader, whose personal coach and trainer, Tyler Wall, died during filming. Wall was 38.
Majd had entered a MrBeast-designed fitness compound to lose 100 pounds in a year. He had access to a private gym, healthy meals, and a dedicated coach, Tyler Wall.
Tyler Wall guided Majd through daily workouts, offered motivation, and more. However, on Day 85 of the challenge, the team was hit with news that Tyler Wall had passed away in his apartment in Greenville, North Carolina, at the age of 38.
Who was Tyler Wall?
Tyler James Wall was a nationally recognized wellness trainer. He worked with clients across the globe. He was born and raised in Southington, Connecticut.
Wall graduated from Southington High School in 2005. He later earned a degree from the University of Connecticut. Wall was also known as an adventurer, poet, and music enthusiast.
According to reports, those close to him described him as emotionally expressive and empathetic. His obituary and tributes from loved ones speak of a man who lived with a purpose.
Majd's transformation was closely guided by Wall.
Cause of death
After Wall's passing, the news gained critical attention. The reason is believed to be MrBeast's massive following: over 400 million YouTube subscribers. However, the family initially kept the cause private. Newsweek later obtained his death certificate, which listed the manner of death as "Accident" and the immediate cause as "Mitragynine Toxicity."
Mitragynine is a compound found in kratom, a plant-based substance with opioid-like effects. While legal in many places, kratom has been flagged by health experts for its potential risks, including addiction and accidental overdose, reports suggest. A 2024 Forbes report noted kratom's increasing use and its link to several accidental deaths across the U.S.
MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, was deeply affected by Tyler Wall's death. He wrote in a statement:
"It is with profound sadness that we share the unexpected passing of Coach Tyler Wall. Coach Wall was a remarkable individual whose kindness and genuine spirit touched all who knew him. His loss has left our hearts heavy with grief."
Before releasing the video, MrBeast and his team reportedly consulted Wall's family. They supported the release, saying that Tyler would have wanted his story to reach others. The video is one of MrBeast's "most emotional and powerful" uploads to date. It has been watched over 86 million times and is trending at No. 1 on YouTube.
Majd eventually lost 100 pounds in 178 days. He also completed additional tasks that brought his total winnings to $417,650.
