Kid Cudi talks about how he has changed his habits regarding marijuana usage in his new book, Cudi: The Memoir. The 41-year-old rapper, singer, and actor also delves into other topics, including love, career, loss, addiction, and rehabilitation, in his book. He talked about going back to rehab again in November so he can adjust his marijuana usage.
In an exclusive with People, Mescudi said:
"I just was in this place where I was abusing it... I was really abusing it. I was smoking maybe 15 blunts a day, wake up in the mornings, get high. It truly ruled my life."
However, after deciding to change this behavior by rehabilitating himself, he shared:
"Now I just get after it at night or on the weekends when I have the free time and I'm just relaxing, but I'm not smoking nowhere near as much weed as I was smoking before... A joint lasts me all day, damn near. So my relationship has changed with that in a major way. And I'm just more interested in being sober a lot more and being more present."
How does Kid Cudi describe his experience after reducing his marijuana usage?
After going back to rehab in November, Kid Cudi stopped using marijuana for two months before he realized he wanted to start again. However, he did not want this habit to go back to "how I was before."
Cudi said that smoking less weed has definitely helped him when it comes to acting. In his previous roles, the rapper said that he was:
"blitzed out of my mind."
However, now that he's "completely sober," he's experiencing acting in a different light.
Kid Cudi elaborated:
"Granted, it's not like it hinders me in any type of way because I was smoking so much that I wasn't really getting high. So people have seen me act for years and they love my acting. They love the stuff I've done, but it's just something different when you're on set and you're sober and you can feel the emotions... Because in this movie, I cried a handful of times and it was easy to get there because I was sober," referring to Happy Gilmore 2.
He further added that it would have been impossible for him to be in touch with his emotions if he were high on weed. In his words:
"There's no way I could have done this if I was high as sh*t."
What did Kid Cudi say about his new book, Cudi: The Memoir?
Scott Mescudi's book, Cudi: The Memoir, was released on the same day as his 11th studio album, Free. The book talks about Mescudi's life from his life in Cleveland to becoming a world-renowned singer, rapper, and actor. It also sheds light on Cudi's role as a father and husband who is working on making music, film, and fashion.
He told People:
"I hope it gives [fans] some hope that you do come out on the other side and into the light and God puts us through things because he wants to teach us something... It's always a lesson in there, always. Even if it doesn't seem like it could be possible, because in the moment, everything just seems like all is lost, you know what I mean? But if you really think about it, everything happens for a reason."
Kid Cudi's memoir reveals how shifting his relationship with marijuana has allowed him to be more present, especially in his acting career. He is starting this new chapter with sobriety and purpose. Cudi: The Memoir is available on Simon & Schuster.
