Why is Soulja Boy arrested? Charges explored

Rapper Soulja Boy has been arrested today on a firearms-related charge, according to reports. NBCLA reports that the arrest happened in relation to the incident that happened at 2:30 in the morning, when the rapper's vehicle was stopped by the L.A. police authorities, and a gun was found in the car.

Although the concerned authorities did not give details on the reason why the vehicle was stopped, they did confirm that the rapper had been arrested on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a gun. At the time of reporting, it is still unspecified if there were any other parties involved during the incident.

It is not the first instance of the rapper having trouble with the law. Soulja Boy has previous convictions of cases, so he is not allowed to have any firearms due to federal law as a convicted felon. In case he is convicted on these charges, the rapper might be imprisoned for up to 10 years and be ordered to pay huge fines as well.

Soulja Boy's past encounters with the law

The last arrest involving Soulja Boy is also a cause of much concern, with the artist having gotten involved in several legal issues since the start of his music career. The earliest legal problem the rapper faced was the arrest that happened in October 2009, in Atlanta, where the rapper was arrested and charged with obstruction.

A couple of years later, the rapper was arrested in Georgia on felony charges for possession of marijuana and firearms. Over the years that have followed, he has been arrested several times on similar types of offenses, which have earned him hefty fines and a probation term.

In one of his most serious legal consequences to date, Soulja Boy was given a 240-day sentence to jail due to a breach of his probation, which was linked to the 2014 weapons case. More recently, an assistant who served under him in the years 2018-2020 filed a case against him and claimed that the rapper subjected her to sexual assault and abuse.

The lawsuit documents presented by the prosecution in court contained several serious allegations against the rapper, detailing disturbing incidents that allegedly occurred against their client. The case recently concluded, and the rapper was ordered to pay over $4 million in damages as the jury ultimately found Soulja Boy liable for all the charges and emotional distress he had caused to the plaintiff.

His recent arrest is happening at a very strenuous time, especially when the rapper is still struggling to recover financially and reputationally due to the aforementioned civil case verdict. By the latest accounts, his custody status and bail conditions, or release, are not available publicly.
