YouTuber and comedian Ethan Klein, famous for being a host of the H3 Podcast, has sued Discord and Reddit mods over claims that they spread false posts, harassed him, and tried to hurt his reputation.

The drama has been going on for a while, with ongoing subpoenas and Ethan giving updates on his YouTube channel. On June 20, Klein uploaded a video titled "I'm Suing These Three Creators."

In the video, he shared that he is filing lawsuits against Morgan “Frogan,” Kasey “Kaceytron,” and Jean “Denims” for allegedly copying his copyrighted Content Nuke video about Hasan Piker, a famous American online streamer.

In the video, he stated:

"There's one thing about content you should know: you have to register it before you publish to be eligible for statutory damages and attorneys' fees, which is the main biting force of the copyright infringement lawsuit."

He continued:

"I, Ethan Klein, have registered Hasan Piker content nuke with the United States Library of Congress."

Ethan Klein also complained that r/H3Snark mods pushed viewers from his original videos to copied streams.

Ethan Klein's subpoena gets approved

In August, Ethan revealed in his H3 Podcast that his subpoena had been approved in his YouTube video titled 'Our Subpoena was APPROVED! (For Reddit & Discord mod’s identity).'

In a statement, he said:

"Moderators, haters, and snarkers are all in shambles right now because the order has come down straight from the judge, fresh from today. The subpoena was granted by the judge against Reddit or for Reddit and Discord, which means Reddit and Discord are being court-ordered to turn over all relevant information pertaining to the named moderators, the named users, that we identified."

According to Ethan Klein, the information included IP addresses, emails, and messages.

According to Slashdot, on September 22, the attorneys of the r/h3snark mods filed a motion to dismiss the subpoenas. As per the outlet, the filing reads:

"On its face, the Action is about copyright infringement. At its heart, however, the Action is about stifling criticism and seeking retribution by unmasking individuals for perceived reputational harms TEI [Klein's production company] attributes to [John Doe moderators] unrelated to TEI's intellectual property rights."

Another statement in the filing reportedly stated:

"Very few would-be commentators are prepared to bear costs of this magnitude. So, when word gets out that the price tag of criticizing Ethan is this high -- that speech will disappear. But that is precisely what Ethan Klein wants"

The case is ongoing, with both sides continuing to file motions and share updates.
