Tyrion Lannister might have been half a man, but he had twice the courage, integrity, and intelligence of any other man in Westeros, except maybe the Three-Eyed Raven. He had the biggest heart and wine tolerance, which was constantly shown throughout the show. Tyrion's journey is proof that brains will outmatch strength if used correctly.

Born a dwarf to Tywin Lannister, the wealthiest man in Westeros, Tyrion Lannister spent his whole life in luxury but at the cost of being undermined by his father and older sister, Cersei Lannister. But he soon learnt to tune out the noise and developed a sharp tongue and sharper wit that helped him avoid countless situations that could have ended him.

The series started with him being a debauched nobleman, only interested in wine and brothels. Over time, he turns into a key political figure who served as the Hand of the King twice, and would have continued to be Hand of the Queen if things had played out differently.

10 Game of Thrones moments that prove Tyrion Lannister should've been King

Despite his dysfunctional family and his shortcomings, not only did Tyrion Lannister survive the winter and the brutal wars, but he lived on to become one of the key figures in Westeros when most of them were either burned to death, stabbed to death, or exiled to the ends of Westeros.

He had a king's vision, a hero's courage, and Dionysus's liver. So, whoever thinks there were better choices than Bran the Broken for the Iron Throne, here are 10 moments that prove Tyrion Lannister was the best choice.

1) He was the only one who slapped Joffrey (multiple times)

Tyrion was one of the few people in Westeros who weren't scared of Joffrey. In Season 1, when he walked up to Joffrey casually and slapped him across his face in the middle of the conversation, it was like seeing angels descend from heaven and dance. The best part was that he did it twice in the series. This moment was the most satisfying after Joffrey's death.

He gave the audience another satisfying moment in Season 2, Episode 6, when he whacked King Joffrey again after Joffrey was being, well, Joffrey. When the entire kingdom bowed down to Joffrey's tyranny, Tyrion was the only one who took a stand. He showed everyone that even kings need to be disciplined when they act like toddlers.

2) He was an outstanding Hand of the King

When Tywin sent him to King's Landing as "acting" Hand of the King, Tyrion Lannister stepped up immediately and worked strategically to prepare for the impending war. He seemed to be the only one to understand the gravity of the situation and was acting accordingly throughout.

During the Battle of the Blackwater, while Cersei was busy sipping wine and preparing for the girls' poison night, Joffrey fled the scene like toddlers flee when they see Halloween decorations. Like a true leader, Tyrion gave a speech that would make the Mountain teary-eyed and joined his army on the battlefield even when he knew he had zero chances of survival.

3) His Trial speech

Tyrion Lannister's trial speech was the most iconic moment of his arc. It is here that he stopped being the nonchalant, wine-drinking, dwarf of Casterly Rock. He is finally done with the hypocrisy and decides to go full Col. Nathan R. Jessep on everyone and give Game of Thrones one of the most iconic scenes ever. He emerges as an angry, powerful, and objective man afterwards.

4) Bye Bye Tywin

After being betrayed by his father and ex-girlfriend and left for execution, Tyrion Lannister is angry at Tywin. When Jamie comes to his rescue and helps him escape, Tyrion takes a small detour and visits Tywin before leaving Westeros. There he receives the shock of his life when he sees Shae, his ex-girlfriend, a girl with whom he once saw a future, in Tywin's bed. There, his anger turns into rage.

He avenges himself by first strangling Shae, then picks up a crossbow and finds Tywin. After seeing no love and sympathy in Tywin's eyes and words, he shoots him. The scene was one of the most shocking and stemmed from a place of deep tragedy. Although Tywin deserved to die, it came at the cost of Tyrion's goodness.

5) Tyrion protects Sansa

Throughout Sansa's time in King's Landing, she suffered emotional, mental, and physical abuse at the hands of Cersei and Joffrey. And because everyone was either supportive or scared of them, they stayed quiet and watched the girl suffer, except Tyrion Lannister.

He was there for her every time. He came to her rescue when Joffrey was about to strip her in front of the whole court, he slapped Joffrey when Sansa was left alone during the mob attack, and at their wedding, he even reprimanded the King for making Sansa uncomfortable. He did all that because he truly cared for Sansa.

6) Tyrion freed the Dragons

Throughout the series, Tyrion Lannister had been the YOLO kinda guy. He loved taking risks if it meant getting something incredible out of it. He would dive into battlefields and negotiate with slave owners, but nothing came close to when he came face to face with two of Daenerys's dragons.

Not only did he come close to them, but he also told them a sad story from his childhood and even unshackled them. He risked his life so Daenerys and her men could win over the Slavers' fleet and cement their rule. His size may have been small, but he had more courage than any knight.

7) Trial by combat

Tyrion Lannister was the luckiest person in Westeros. He survived imprisonments, two trials, an execution, several battles, a heartbreak, kidnapping, slavery, getting burnt to a crisp by dragons, his father's hate, his sister's resentment, and never lost himself once.

When he was wrongly imprisoned by Lysa Arryn and tried for putting a hit on Bran Stark and killing Jon Arryn, all he had was his quick wit to get him out of this mess. He demanded a trial by combat and was saved when Ser Bronn (who wasn't a knight at that time) defeated Lysa's champion. That was the first time the audience got to know that he wasn't just a funny dwarf in the series.

8) Moving his chair at the Small Council meeting

During a Small Council meeting, when Tywin arranges the chairs in such a way as to sow discord among members, his own children understand the meaning and show him how much of his blood runs through them.

While Cersei pulled up a chair on the other side of the table, next to Tywin, Tyrion saw a chance to pull a power move. He dragged his chair to the opposite side of his father and sat across him triumphantly.

9) Meeting Daenerys Stormborn of House Targaryen

What do you think would happen if you saw a person meet someone whose father was killed by the person's family? You would think that the person would be killed immediately, but what if you were told that the person ended up being the latter's most trusted companion? You would go crazy from the shock.

This is exactly what happened when Tyrion Lannister met Daenerys Targaryen. He was brought to her as a s. He was supposed to be a gift to Dany from Jorah Mormont. The Lannisters had killed Daenerys's father and ended her House. Jorah thought of presenting a Lannister to Daenerys and earning her forgiveness in return.

But it ended with Tyrion being hired as Daenerys' political advisor, because he was the only man who knew the political and social environment of Westeros. He was the only one who could help Daenerys get a stronghold on the kingdom once he reclaimed her rightful position as heir to the Iron Throne.

10) Finding the traitor

Tyrion Lannister was an intelligent man, and it was shown throughout the show. One instance that conveys it brilliantly is when he lays a trap to find Cersei's spy in the Small Council.

He confides in Maester Pycelle that he intends to marry Cersei's daughter Marcella to Trystane Martell, he tells Lord Varys that he intends to marry Marcella to Theon Greyjoy, and he tells Lord Baelish that she will marry Robin Arryn, respectively. And then he waits. When Cersei burst into his room and confronted him about his plans to marry off her daughter to Trystane Martell, he received his answer.

Through all the heartbreaks, wars, and trials, Tyrion Lannister remains one of the most notable characters in Game of Thrones. Whether pulling strings behind the curtains or delivering clever one-liners, he entertained the audiences for eight straight seasons.
