The Umbrella Academy is one of Netflix's top-rated shows. It is not just about superhero siblings who were traumatized throughout their childhood. It's also about them having a talking monkey butler and time-travelling to different dimensions to stop the apocalypse from happening.

Based on the comic series by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, The Umbrella Academy follows the story of five adopted siblings: Diego, Luther, Allison, Victor (previously Vanya), Klaus, Ben, and Number Five, who are born mysteriously on the same day in 1989 with superpower to women who showed no prior signs of pregnancy. Sir Reginald Hargreeves, an eccentric billionaire, adopts them and trains them to prevent the impending apocalypse.

The show stars Elliot Page, Aidan Gallagher, Robert Sheehan, Tom Hopper, David Castaneda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, and Justin H. Min as the siblings. Colm Feore stars as their adoptive father, Reginald. The story is a roller-coaster ride with new mind-bending twists presenting themselves at regular intervals. Also, the story is filled with several hidden details and Easter eggs that many of you might have missed.

10 hidden details in The Umbrella Academy you missed

If you have just started watching The Umbrella Academy or are a veteran fan, there is a good chance you have missed these small, hidden details in the show. These easter eggs will make you want to rewatch the scenes a little more attentively.

10) Luther's Moon Mission

Out of all the Hargreeves siblings, Luther arguably got the weirdest assignment. While his siblings were dealing with real-world issues such as tsunamis, global warming, and increasing crime rates, Luther was sent on a solo mission to the moon by Reginald. But instead of coming back, he stayed there for a long time.

In The Umbrella Academy Season 1, Luther is seen maintaining a diary about the moon's phases and lunar geology. However, what's concerning is his entries about strange signals. Were the signals from Reginald's origins or something more sinister? Whatever the case might have been, it seemed like he was observing something there.

9) The references in Klaus's Cult

Here is another hidden detail, this time about Klaus. In Season 2, the siblings travel back in time to the 1960s, and Klaus becomes a cult leader. Did anyone see that coming? Yes, everyone, because he checked all the boxes to become one. Flamboyance? Check. Ability to talk to the dead? Check. Wicked fashion sense? Check.

There is a little easter egg in his journey of becoming a cult leader that many might have missed. Many of his followers were named after some counterculture icons of the '60s, like 'Moonchild' and 'Sunbeam.' One of his followers even got a tattoo of Klaus's face, which is a normal '60s thing to do.

8) The changes in Ben's tattoos

Ben Hargreeves is the sweetest ghost ever with the sickest ink. But the tattoos aren't randomly chosen, they have a purpose. As the series progresses, Ben's tattoo designs change with every change the siblings face. This change symbolizes his connection with Klaus and his character development. By Season 2, he was already asserting his position, making his ink more visible and bolder.

7) The hidden detail behind the academy's address

The Umbrella Academy's home is located at 713 Academy Road. At first glance, it seems like a normal address with nothing unusual about it, right? Wrong. You see, in numerology, 713 is associated with spiritual growth and transformation. It is something that the siblings associate with the most; if anything, they have been undergoing a spiritual transformation since the beginning.

6) The reason behind Five's mannequin's name

One of the most interesting 'characters' in The Umbrella Academy is Five's girlfriend, Dolores. She has been a running joke throughout the three seasons, why? Well, for starters, because she is a mannequin. But here is the deal: Symbolically, Dolores carries a lot of sadness inside her. Dolores means 'sorrow' in Spanish, hinting at the time Five spent alone during his time in the apocalypse.

5) Hazel and Cha-Cha's masks

Hazel and Cha-Cha are the two assassins working for the Commission, and they kill anyone who tries to disrupt the Commission's plan. What sets them apart, besides their modus operandi, is their set of unsettling, cartoonish animal masks. The show nails their appearance and mannerism right down to the smallest detail, especially those eerie masks - Hazel wears a dog, Cha-Cha a bear.

But did you happen to notice one small detail about them? The lenses in their eyes turn blue or red, depending on how they are feeling at that time. Hazel's lenses turn blue when he starts feeling human emotions, whereas Cha-Cha's stay red because she is a killing machine.

4) Hotel Oblivion

If you are a keen observer and a true The Umbrella Academy fan, then you must have seen some things that made sense later in the series. In Season 3, fans were welcomed to the interdimensional Hotel Oblivion, but true fans saw it coming. In Season 2, graffiti was sprayed all over Dallas that said "The Oblivion is coming," which could be seen as a foreshadowing

3) The real Reginald Hargreeves

No one can forget the moment eccentric billionaire Sir Reginald Hargreeves took off his human mask to reveal his true form. He was an alien all along, and the way he was treating those kids, it all made sense. No human could be like that. His extraterrestrial form was hinted at much earlier, for example, 'Reginald' is the name of a lunar crater.

Furthermore, in Season 1, if you noticed carefully, his office globe showed a non-Earth map. Was it his home? More aliens? No one knows for now.

2) Vanya's Powers

Everyone was stunned when Vanya finally revealed her powers to her siblings and the world. Up until that point, everyone thought she was this traumatized, timid young girl, but when fans finally saw why Hargreeves had kept her under wraps for so long, they were left speechless.

Vanya's powers were more than just piercing white eyes and floating violins; her powers sync with the music playing in that scene. Not only that, the waveforms of some of the scenes match her attacks. It is a treat for the eyes and the ears.

1) The Sparrows were teased in the first season

It's been so long that you probably must have forgotten, but the Sparrows were teased way back in Season 1. In episode 10, when the siblings watch Vanya unleash her violin fury at the theatre, there is a quick transition scene where a sparrow is seen flying across the screen. Coincidence? Fans who haven't watched Season 3 will say yes, but the real ones know what's up.

First released in February 2019, The Umbrella Academy is one of the most critically acclaimed shows on Netflix. Apart from all the superhero action, the childhood traumas, and soul-numbing twists, there are hidden gems that can only be spotted by an eagle-eyed viewer.
