The Marvel universe is so spread out that it is inevitable that cameos on Marvel shows will happen. The Marvel Cinematic Universe, or MCU, has many movies and TV shows, and the list is ever-growing. Therefore, it is always a welcome surprise for fans of the shows when a Marvel character from another franchise ends up in the show that they are watching. Here are 10 surprising cameos on Marvel shows that were unexpected.
Wilson Fisk in Hawkeye, Daredevil in Echo, and other surprising cameos on Marvel shows
1. Captain Marvel – Ms. Marvel

While the image of Captain Marvel, or Carol Danvers (played by Brie Larson), was there in the episodes of Ms. Marvel, she was not physically present. Kamala Khan had lots of doodles in her bedroom that featured Captain Marvel in some capacity. Even her cosplay for AvengersCon was based on Captain Marvel. However, the actual superhero only makes a brief physical appearance in the show’s post-credit scene. Kamala notices that her bracelet is glowing, and as she turns to stand and investigate, she is replaced by her hero, Captain Marvel. Hilariously enough, Captain Marvel looks at all the drawings of Kamala and says, “Oh no,” and turns to leave the room. This is one of those post-credits scenes where Marvel includes a scene from the project being teased at the end of another, with this tag coming from The Marvels. Therefore, Captain Marvel has one of those cameos on Marvel shows that no one saw coming.
2. Yelena Belova – Hawkeye

As Hawkeye is a self-contained story, the cameo of Yelena Belova (played by Florence Pugh) was surprising. However, the cameo blended well into the story. When Yelena is told that Clint Barton is responsible for the death of her sister Natasha Romanoff, she joins the show to hunt him down. While Clint was the one who had to let Natasha die at the end, he did everything he could to not let that happen and take the fall himself. Yelena’s cameo turns into a recurring role as the fiery character is reeling under emotional loss and needs to take revenge for her sister. However, Yelena is able to weave herself into the show’s humor and characters and has many fun moments with other characters like Kate Bishop. Yelena’s cameo is therefore one of those cameos on Marvel shows that leave a lasting impression.
3. Ralph Bohner – WandaVision

The cameo of Ralph Bohner is surprising in WandaVision because of the actor who plays the role—Evan Peters. Peters has played Peter Maximoff or Quicksilver in several Fox X-Men movies. However, in the MCU, that role was played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson. However, his version of Quicksilver was killed in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Therefore, bringing in Evan Peters to play an alternate version of the character in the show was a surprising moment that many fans didn’t expect. However, it was later revealed that Wanda was confused about the whole situation, and Peters was actually playing the role of her neighbor, Ralph Bohner, who had been brainwashed by the villain into thinking that he was Wanda’s dead brother. While Peters was Bohner at the end of the day, his little cameo as Quicksilver was a surprising moment.
4. Sif – Loki

The cameo of Sif (played by Jaimie Alexander) was extremely surprising because Loki is a show that has stayed away from Asgard and its whole ensemble of characters. Therefore, the cameo of Sif after almost a decade since appearing in Thor: The Dark World and more than five years after appearing in Agents of SHIELD was a jaw-dropping surprise. Further, this addition was hidden from fans, and Alexander was not even credited for her role. Sif appears in one of the episodes as a recreation and not the actual character. She is present within Loki’s time loop punishment. As a punishment, the recreation of Sif repeatedly kicks Loki and makes him feel hurt. Sif’s character is looping through a real memory of Loki’s repeatedly until Loki finally relents and tries to talk instead of her getting physical. The cameo is one of those cameos on Marvel shows that is totally unexpected and therefore interesting.
5. Skaar – She-Hulk: Attorney at Law

This is one of those instances where the cameo was surprising, but it did not fare well with the viewers. After being introduced as Hulk’s son in the final moments of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law’s season 1 finale, Skaar (played by Wil Deusner) makes a brief appearance at Jennifer Walter’s family picnic. While the show always maintained allusions to Hulk being up to something in space, the cameo was still abrupt and came out of nowhere. Many viewers and critics were unsatisfied with the manner in which Skaar was added at the end of the season for addition's sake. Further, he did not come in the post-credits scene as Marvel always does. The cameo did not bring in any cliffhanger or explain his appearance. Therefore, the lack of context did not fare well with the viewers of the show. His appearance was one of those cameos on Marvel shows that got rare criticism.
6. Swordsman – Daredevil: Born Again

Many of the best cameos on Marvel shows come from the world of Daredevil. Therefore, another interesting cameo from Daredevil: Born Again came when Swordsman, or Jack Duquesne (played by Tony Dalton), appeared on the series a couple of times for a brief appearance. He is first shown in phone footage during one of the BB Report segments and is shown speaking to Wilson Fisk later in the episode. In another instance, the conversation between him and Fisk turns sour, and Fisk captures him and keeps him locked in the same place as where the Punisher is later locked up. Therefore, as Frank Castle is brought towards his cage, Jack Duquesne is seen among the prisoners. This is one of those rare examples where a character from some other show is appearing in a Daredevil story. However, the cameo is fun because of this aspect, as it keeps the Marvel universe connected.
7. Wilson Fisk – Hawkeye

Another surprising cameo from the world of Hawkeye comes in the form of Wilson Fisk (played by Vincent’ D’Onofrio). The cameo was important and shocking because it signaled the move that the canceled Daredevil series will be brought into the fold of the Marvel universe. Fisk is a deadly kingpin, and he turns out to be the chief culprit behind the Tracksuit Mafia. In the season finale of the show, Fisk even has a deadly fight with Kate Bishop. Fisk’s cameo was exciting and jaw-dropping for the fans, as he was a fan-favorite villain. Even more surprising was that in the show, Fisk’s brutality was less physical and had more emotional violence than what he had shown in Daredevil. Fisk’s cameos are therefore one of those cameos on Marvel shows that was a huge hit and brought Daredevil back into Marvel’s fold.
8. Daredevil – Echo

Daredevil, or Matt Murdock’s (played by Charlie Cox) cameo in Echo, was a prime example of how often two superheroes end up meeting each other in the world of comics, and that can be replicated in the world of shows as well. Daredevil enters the scene to fight Maya Lopez, who is committing the type of crime that Daredevil will definitely stop from happening. Plus, the cameo gives an external view of Daredevil for a change. Most fans know about the moral crisis that Daredevil has to routinely suffer from in his own show. Therefore, seeing Daredevil from purely a superhero point of view who acts as a vigilante during the nighttime is exciting and interesting. The show also marks the first time since Daredevil season 3 that Matt or Fisk acknowledge each other, as Fisk talks about Matt to Maya after the fight.
9. James Rhodes – The Falcon and the Winter Soldier

James Rhodes, or Rhodey (played by Don Cheadle), has had a brief appearance in Marvel shows till now. The character is seen in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier as he appears for some brief scenes and is not in his superhero costume. Rhodey is there for a press conference where Sam Wilson has decided to give up the Captain America shield and give it to the government. Rhodey is seen afterwards talking to Sam and telling him that he made the right choice. The show has a lot of things happening, and therefore, Sam’s conversation with Rhodey might feel that it is of no substance and is not power-packed, unlike the other cameos. However, the cameo does leave a mark, as viewers from Secret Invasion know that Rhodey has been a Skrull all along.
10. Wong – She-Hulk: Attorney at Law

Another surprising cameo from the world of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law happens when Wong (played by Benedict Wong) appears in the show. While he has a recurring role, it works as a cameo because of the role he plays and the connections between Marvel and the show. He appears in three of the episodes, and in his first appearance, he agrees to testify in Emil Blonsky’s trial but does not show up on time. Then, he asks Jen to help him against a magician who is actually evil. In another instance, Wong becomes friends with a person called Madisynn, and the two are seen watching TV and bonding over drinks. Finally, Wong appears in one of the episodes and portals into Abomination's cell and brings himself to Kamar-Taj. His cameo is therefore fun and one of those cameos on Marvel shows that is memorable.
