Schitt’s Creek first aired in 2015, and since then, it has made us wheeze-laugh at the absurd jokes and funny antics. Created by Eugene and Dan Levy, the Canadian comedy has etched itself into pop cultural memory with memorable characters and belly aches. Schitt’s Creek follows the story of the once-wealthy Rose family as they transition into the (almost) low-key, normal life in a rundown town that they once bought unseriously.
Schitt’s Creek saw a great journey through all six seasons, slowly shifting from a fish-out-of-water story to a story about coexistence, familial bonding, community, and most importantly, self-acceptance.
Schitt’s Creek revelled in its craft of balancing between fun jokes and a deeply touching narrative. It was, according to many, a heartfelt narrative without being too sweet, and progressive without being preachy. The scenes were crafted with care—some focused on family moments, some on personal struggles. Throughout its 80 episodes, Schitt’s Creek was laced with funny ones that made us wheeze, fall off the chair as we were badly oscillating between laugh and cry.
Years have passed since Schitt’s Creek's finale, but the show continues to live rent-free in many sitcom lovers’ hearts. Here are 10 scenes from Schitt’s Creek that made us (or will make us laugh and cry again as we take a walk down memory lane)
10 Schitt’s Creek scenes that still make us laugh-cry
1. David had a "Fold in the Cheese" meltdown
One scene from Season 2, Episode 2, titled Family Dinner, calls for comic attention. David wanted to help his mother, Moira, cook, but he gets comically fixated and confused on the instruction that said "fold the cheese". While the instruction may appear commonplace to us, David appears to have a hard time decoding it.
Naturally, what ensues next is an absurd, spiralling argument that signals how both of them are equally clueless on this. Yet both are too caught up in their pride to admit it. The silly bickering was a sitcom gem, and we cherished it with a simultaneous laugh and cry.
2. Alexis and David have a heart-to-heart moment in the barn
In Season 2, Episode 13 of Schitt's Creek, titled Happy Anniversary, we see a rare yet tender moment unfold between Alexis and David. Alexis tries to reassure David by telling him, "You're my Mariah Carey."
The line is random, comic, and yet invites us to feel the emotional bond. Alexis is the kind of sibling moment that makes you laugh through your tears.
3. Moira attempts the Herb Ertlinger fruit wine advertisement
In Schitt’s Creek's episode 6 from season 1, titled Wine and Roses, Moira tries to reach her former fame and attempts at a local commercial. The scene is pure camp. She gives just the perfect enactment to a character who over exaggerates the words "Herb Ertlinger" with a peculiar pronunciation.
Catherine O’Hara pulls off the peak absurdist form in style, and the moment is bone-ticklingly funny.
4. David goes "I Like the Wine, Not the Label" in a funny speech
In season 1, episode 10 of the sitcom, there is a short monologue about wine preferences. This moment, although on the surface, appears to be just about wine choices, on a deeper inspection, it reads as an elegant metaphor for pans*xuality. The scene appears gives a nod to queer representation—and David delivered it with funny his antics served alongside delicious humor.
5. Alexis' Audition for Cabaret
In season 5, episode 8 of Schitt’s Creek, another funny moment presents itself when Alexis performs "A Little Bit Alexis" as her audition entry. If you expect some perfect dance moves and masterful execution, then you are going to have a full belly laugh. The scene is laced with half-hearted dance moves and an auto-tuned backing track, making it an awkward yet memorable laugh and cry dramatic moment.
Her commitment to being over-the-top and comic is just admirable and hilarious.
6. Patrick wants to sing to David
In season 4, episode 6 of Schitt's Creek, titled Open Mic, Patrick attempts to serenade David. For context, Patrick is David's husband and his business partner. When Patrick tries to comfort David, he sings an acoustic rendition of Tina Turner’s Simply the Best.
This moment is a perfect example of how Schitt's Creek not only makes us laugh with jokes but also makes us teary-eyed with earnestly sweet moments. David was stunned and emotional—so were we.
7. Moira in The Crows Have Eyes III premiere
Moira Rose's acting career takes a turn when she acts in a low-budget horror film titled The Crows Have Eyes III: The Crowening. Upon the film's release, in typical Moira unlocks the typical over-the-top side of her character. She takes the role of an eccentric, crow-possessed scientist and does not let it go even during the interviews. The scene makes you roll on the floor with its peak absurdity.
From exaggerated accent to the theatrical gestures—you just have to name it, Moira delivers it all while she remains strongly committed to this laughably bad film.
8. Alexis' graduation speech
One scene from season 6 episode 13 titled 'Start Spreading the News', Alexis graduates from her college. She ends the deal with a heartfelt speech about progress, family, and transformation. Even though the speech is heartfelt, it is still comically clumsy, awkward, and beautiful—something that qualifies as a truly laugh-cry moment.
9. The happy ending with David's wedding vows
Season 6 episode 14 gives us another laugh-cry moment when David expresses his admiration for Patrick with these words: "You make me feel right, David."
This is another of many examples where Schitt’s Creek makers struck a fine balance between funny and emotionally charged scenes.
10. Stevie performs 'Maybe this time'
Season 5 episode 14 of Schitt’s Creek, Stevie performs 'Maybe this time', which goes a little bit surprising to the audience. Stevie was known to be sarcastic, but the performance stuns everyone with a powerhouse scene in Cabaret.
It’s unexpected, dynamic, and powerful. You find yourself giggling in disbelief and crying out of pride.
