10. Interview with the Vampire (2022 - Present)

Like the name of the show, the story of this 2022 vampire series is unique. Brought to life by Rolin Jones, from Anne Rice's famous book The Vampire Chronicles, this gothic horror traces Louis de Pointe du Lac (Jacob Anderson).

The story unfolds as Louis recalls his intense relationship with his maker and lover, Lestat de Lioncourt (Sam Reid), to a reporter. The series tackled unique themes and paved the way for another show titled Mayfair Witches.

9. First Kill (2022)

V. E. Schwab’s 2022 series has an ensemble cast, featuring vampire Juliette Fairmont (Sarah Catherine Hook) and monster hunter Calliope Burns (Imani Lewis). The plot of the story revolves around pretty much what’s been said through the show’s title: a teen vampire turning sixteen must make her first kill for initiation into adulthood.

On the other end of the spectrum is a girl from the Monster Hunter family who also must make her first kill. The story of these two worlds drew good viewership and tackled unique, challenging themes.

What you get: You get a blend of fantasy and horror delivered against two different, opposing worlds. If you have a taste for earnest, soapy, and tragically short love stories, tune in.


8. Van Helsing (2016 – 2021)

Remember the Helsing graphic novels? This fantasy horror drama delivers you a live-action version of those. Featuring Kelly Overton as Vanessa Van Helsing, a descendant of Abraham Van Helsing, the show is set in a bleak, post-apocalyptic world dominated by blood-suckers.

Vanessa miraculously awakens from her coma, discovering her blood has the potential to turn vampires back into humans. The show slowly takes a turn away from Vanessa, focusing on her long-lost children.

The show originally aired on Syfy, and slowly grew into a fascinating fantasy Western-type story with great performances.

7. Castlevania (2017 – 2021)

This animated Netflix show takes the ‘stake’ high with its dark, fantasy story. Based on the video game by legendary Japanese creator Konami, the live-action Netflix show traces Trevor Belmont, who is a descendant of a once-active vampire-hunting family.

When Dracula unleashes deadly forces to destroy human lives, Sypha the sorceress and Alucard (Dracula’s son) team up to fight the evil. The series delivers a perfect blend of vampire story, blood lust, revenge, and spine-numbing suspense.

6. Midnight Mass (2021)

Mike Flanagan delivered a solid horror masterpiece that is equal parts artistic and thought-provoking. Midnight Mass brings a chilling twist to the vampire genre, commenting on complex themes.

The story revolves around a devout and impoverished Crockett island community who are shaken by sudden, supernatural events following the entry of a mysterious priest.

Beneath his devotional mask lies a bloodsucking nature that sends a chill down your spine and runs as the main string of suspense throughout the show.

What you get: If you want a story that explores deeper themes with a dash of poetic, cinematic treatment, Midnight Mass gets it done.


5. Vampires (2020)

This 2020 Parisian teen drama centers on Doina, a vampire-human hybrid who wants to live a normal life. The show gives you multiple relationship dynamics, starting from teen bonds to family ties, alongside visuals that are dark, brooding, and gloomy.

4. The Order (2019 – 2020)

When Jack Morton, a college student, joins a secret magic society known as the Hermetic Order of the Blue Rose, dark family truths are uncovered.

Hope is special as a tribrid (witch, werewolf, and vampire). The series traces her life in boarding school, where they practice their special powers.

1. Preacher (2016 – 2019)

This 2016 supernatural neo-Western story revolves around preacher Jesse Custer, who gains a rare power to command others. In his journey as a preacher, he literally embarks on a journey to confront God, joined by his ex-girlfriend and a vampire.

What you get: This series is a blend of bizarre, darkly funny horror and epic action. If you have a taste for something like that, Preacher is waiting right around the corner!
