Stranger Things Season 5: 3 episodes you need to watch ahead of the final season's premiere
Stranger Things has released four seasons over the last decade, and now that we're days away from the final season of the Netflix blockbuster, here is a look back to understand the lore better.
To find yourself in the correct headspace for an essential watch party ahead of the fifth season's release, the first episode is the perfect way to go back to what started it all. The Spielbergian sequence finds a remarkable episode where Will is abducted and Eleven makes her appearance in Hawkins.
The Mind Flayer: Stranger Things Season 2, Episode 8

One of the most traumatic episodes from the Netflix show, this episode is also one that expounds on Will's connection to the Upside Down and the Mind Flayer, something that, according to the Duffer brothers, will be a major part of the final season. Will is deep in the Mind Flayer's control in this episode and uses Morse code to communicate 'CLOSEGATE' to his friends. It does not amount to safety in Hawkins, but this is an important lore-building episode that also displays Eleven's powers at an unparalleled high.
Dear Billy: Stranger Things Season 4, Episode 4

The episode that led to Kate Bush's Running Up That Hill climbing the charts years after its release, Dear Billy also delivers some important lore on the show. For one, it gives the Hawkins kids some form of power and opposition against Vecna. The episode also finds Nancy and Robin visiting a blind Victor Creel, which opens up a lot of mysteries about the Creel House. Max's goodbye to Billy in her letter and her trying to find solace in the fact that she might be dying take an emotional toll on the viewer.
The Massacre at Hawkins Lab: Stranger Things Season 4 Episode 7

Another lore-heavy episode, this takes us right back to where it all started in Season 1. Eleven's meeting with Number One and his manipulation of her, and the murder of all the children, is finally expanded on. The episode finally explains all these questions that have been building up regarding the Upside Down for the past seasons. This is the lore-heaviest that Stranger Things gets, with Henry Creel, aka Vecna, revealing his identity and explaining to Eleven exactly how she's responsible for everything that has happened in Hawkins.
While these three episodes do a good job of providing an overview of the lore that you need to know ahead of the fifth season's premiere, a complete rewatch of the four seasons is the only thing that can get you in the perfect place to begin Season 5.
