When it comes to personal losses, the Pogues have faced many, but never before have they lost one of their own. The Outer Banks Season 4 found some very disorienting reveals, from JJ discovering that Chandler Groff was actually his father, and that he had killed his mother, to Groff actually plunging a knife into JJ's stomach, killing his own son in the final moments of the fourth season.

As Outer Banks Season 5 wraps up production and moves into post-production, here are some plot lines that need to be addressed in the fifth and final season.

1: How will the Pogues deal with JJ's death?

The biggest and most obvious question that needs to be addressed as we move into Outer Banks Season 5 is how the Pogues will look after JJ's death. Chandler Groff killed JJ, leaving him to die in Kiara's arms, forever changing the Pogues' dynamic as they lose the heart of their group.

It will be interesting to see how they exist after such a huge loss. In a conversation with Deadline, showrunners teased that revenge will be a major driving force this season:

"That’s where we start but I think it will go through different iterations. If you look at 'The Count of Monte Cristo,' one of the greatest revenge stories, you start with revenge, but it goes to understanding and forgiveness, so revenge goes on to different iterations of that, but revenge is where we start for sure."

Revenge has a way of turning a person inside out, so it is to be seen how these young adults prevent themselves from being hardened in their quest for revenge.

2: Chandler Groff's fate

While we're on the topic of revenge, the Pogues are hot on Goff's chase for killing JJ and for stealing the Blue Crown (stained with his son's blood). The Pogues intend to hunt him down and exact their revenge. The showrunners have revealed that the main hunt of Season 4, i.e., the Blue Crown, is set to carry the final season through to the end.

Many before have tried and failed to kill Groff, so it will be interesting to see how Outer Banks Season 5 will wrap up Groff's story.

3: Will Rafe make amends?

For the first few seasons, Drew Starkey's Rafe was nothing more than a villainous monster on a warpath, but the last season brought forth a much more vulnerable side for him. Be it his relationship with his sister Sarah or with his fiancée (or is she?) Sofia, he's made a lot of progress this season.

Outer Banks Season 5 has to address if his heart-to-heart with Sarah on the boat to Morocco actually makes some serious strides in their relationship. Additionally, he also breaks up with Sofia when he thinks she's betrayed him, so their relationship is also shrouded in a lot of uncertainty, which needs to be addressed moving forward.

4: The Pogues and Parenthood

In another extremely surprising development, Season 4 reveals that Sarah is pregnant with Chase's baby. The twenty-year-olds who spend their time globe-trotting for treasure might not have just enough stability to bring a child into this world. Outer Banks Season 5 places the couple with some big decisions regarding their future and whether they think they're ready for a child.

5: What awaits the Pogues back home

If the Pogues' future is uncertain, so is their home's. Season 4 revealed that their home was in danger of becoming an extension of the Figure Eight. Additionally, Pope had assaulted a police officer and was asked to join the Marines to avoid going to jail. But he ended up ditching the Marine recruitment centre and instead going off to hunt the Blue Crown, so he has the law enforcement on his tail as he returns to Kildare Island.

There is a mess waiting for the Pogues back home, if they even have a home anymore, and Outer Banks Season 5 has a lot of uncertainty to clear up in that aspect as well.
