Oona Chaplin is the granddaughter of Charlie Chaplin, the legendary comic actor of his time.

Despite this, not many know Oona. This is because she has been someone building her career quietly, picking up socially relevant, complex roles rather than simply being in the spotlight for being related to famous people. She is definitely carving a unique path for herself outside her grandfather's shadows.

Her choice of work reflects that she doesn't want stardom-driven visibility but emotionally complex characters that she can learn from. Her major appearance was in Game of Thrones. She played a woman suffering under social taboos in his other show, Taboo, which was released in 2017.

Game of Thrones

In the popular show Game of Thrones, Oona Chaplin plays Talisa Maegyr Stark and creates a beautiful contrast. In the brutal political world of Game of Thrones, where everything is fair in the fight for the throne, Talisa is compassionate. She is portrayed as a healer from Volantis and is warm and intelligent.

The first time Robb and Talisa meet, Robb sees her saving a fisherman's boy who lost his foot because of an attack. Talisa tells Robb how the kid has nothing to do with King Joffrey but is suffering the burn while Robb clarifies that he doesn't hate the lad; moreover, he didn't even want the throne. Over this, Talisa taunts him that his belief cannot help the lad grow his foot back. This is when Talisa's unique personality wins Robb's heart.

Talisa gets married to Robb Stark eventually, and in the Red Wedding, her tragic fate unravels. Robb and Talisa attend a celebration at the Twins hosted by Frey, whose soldiers eventually kill them. Her character signified a hope that there is a world beyond betrayal and politics, but with her death, it can never be a reality.

Taboo

Taboo is a dark and atmospheric period drama where Chaplin has delivered yet another strong performance as Zilpha Geary. Zilpha is a woman trapped in a deeply repressive marriage in 19th-century London, while Chaplin's performance playing the same is most daring.

Her chemistry with Tom Hardy is unsettling and intense, while her portrayal perfectly mixes desire, guilt, and repression. Chaplin uses pauses and silences to speak what is unsaid and can only be felt by the viewers. This makes Zilpha the show's most tragic figure.

The Crimson Field

This show came out in 2014 and was set in World War I. Here Chaplin plays Kit Trevelyan, a volunteer nurse confronting the horrors of war. The role allows her to explore moral conflict and courage that is not vocal and evident but lies within silent reliance.

Treason

Oona Chaplin played Maddy De Costa in this 2022 thriller TV series. The show followed the aftermath of an MI6 officer's reunion with Russian spy forces, which made him question what path he wants to take in life.

Anchor and Hope

This is a film from 2017 that stars Oona Chaplin in a contemporary setting, as Eva. A lesbian woman who is figuring out love, commitment, and the idea of family that aligns with her preferences. In this film, Oona has played a tender, warm, and comic role, proving her dynamic range and versatility.

Therefore, we can say that Oona Chaplin chooses her roles honestly; the ones that offer some kind of emotional and social intersectionality seem to be her favourite ones. She is praised for her natural craft and authentic portrayals, while her performances often seem live-in and not just ornamental.
